We caught up with the brilliant and insightful LaVonda M Stevens a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi LaVonda M , you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?
I know what’s it’s like being homeless with two kids, and I believe that what made me be generous. I asked God if you get me through this, and I’ll remember to help people in need. I’ll never forget where I’ve been and how I struggle and how friends and family treated me and my kids. I remember that the word of God said to treat others as the way you want to be treated. So, I try to always give love and be generous in my giving. I also call my home a safe heaven because it’s a safe place to live and find yourself in God. I thank God each and every day for everything.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The best advice I can give is have determination and never give up. Please educate yourself and seeking information in what your passionate about. Always remember not to receive no as an answer and keep going until you get an yes.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
My parents impacted full-time in my life all my life. My mother taught me how to survive hard times. What I mean by that is that when times get tough, she says, Look to God, and He will help you get through it and just believe it. My father was the type to tell me you work hard and you will accomplish your goals. He also taught me how to save. So, I combined what they taught me and applied it to my life, and it worked for me, and I have learned some things as well on my own. I lost my mom 23 years ago, and I just lost my dad on February 19, 2025, and it’s been very hard for me. I can hear him saying, “Keep going, and don’t stop on my behalf. Lol, I love you, Dad.
