We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Layla Nassar. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Layla below.
Layla, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
Being creative is one of the hardest thing I would say being in the event industry. Following new trends, taking inspiration and putting your own twist on it, and coming up with constant new ideas because people want the same trend or theme.
How we keep our creativity alive is taking ideas and amplifying them or suggesting themes that aren’t as common. We always try to customize as many things as we can to make our clients feel like their party is branded just for them. Taking ideas from our day to day lives or travelling and being inspired from whats happening in another city is also how we find fresh ideas!
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Layla Nassar Events Inc. is an event planning company based in Toronto, Ontario – striving to deliver the best service to all of our amazing clients and giving them the best experience possible. Whether it’s planning a wedding, bat/bar mitzvah, birthday party, bridal shower, brand launch, we got it covered.
We are started in the balloon industry (and of course we still do balloons) and quickly expanded into full planning and decor before we knew it. We like to consider ourselves a one stop shop for everything! Planning, coordination, design, decor all in one! You don’t need to look else where.
Striving with confidence and always giving out 110% to anyone we meet is what matters most. Our next goal is that we would love to expand into the states and more! That would be our up coming goals for the future.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three most important things I think that has impacted me on my journey was making connections, giving my ALL (and more), and really taking the time to learn from others in the industry.
1) Making Connections is the only way you get your business out there – 90% of my jobs are referrals because I put myself out there and people actually get to interact and see who I am as a person and how I treat others. Yes we have instagram and all different kinds of social media which is incredible, but nothing beats in person or phone call social interactions.
2) Giving my ALL – and when I say my all, I mean my whole well being lol. I cannot begin to explain how many sleepless nights we have had, events with family or friends I have missed out on, or just spending hours trying to make my business better. I put my head down for about a solid 3-4 years and it was the best decision I have made. Being confident on what I know I find i’m now in a position where I can guide and teach people which is where my heart is at.
3) Learning never stops – I am so incredibly blessed I have met some incredible people in this industry that have taught me so much in so little time, and I would bend over backwards for these people. From learning how to schedule a wedding properly, all the way to running a Mitzvah, and even from a design aspect. I really took all the feed back I could get and I couldn’t be more appreciative.
Can you share with us what is your biggest challenge?
I wouldn’t say so much of a challenge but I think a mental battle of learning how to let go. I have a slightttttt issue of being a little controlling in my business and I’m trying to teach myself that its okay to not do EVERYTHING and to accept help. I think this needs to be talked about in small business owners who are growing but don’t know how to let go or hire people on. It all comes from a place of love because this business is literally my life (heart, soul, child, everything), but that being said we are working on expanding and growing the business.
