Meet Leah Adler

We were lucky to catch up with Leah Adler recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Leah, so happy to have you on the platform and I think our readers are in for a treat because you’ve got such an interesting story and so much insight and wisdom. So, let’s start with a topic that is relevant to everyone, regardless of industry etc. What do you do for self-care and how has it impacted you?

As an esthetician, self-care isn’t just something I preach to my clients—it’s something I genuinely live by. I believe that if I’m going to encourage others to pour into themselves, I have to do the same. Self-care helps me maintain a healthy work-life balance, especially since I wear multiple hats: I’m a solo esthetician running my own business and also an esthetician instructor. My work is a huge part of my life, but it doesn’t consume it.

I make intentional time for myself, my friends, and my family. That might look like getting lost in a good book, having a girls night out with my best friends, spending time in nature, going on a vacation with the family. These moments help reset my energy and keep me grounded.

The impact on my effectiveness is huge. Prioritizing self-care allows me to show up for my clients and students with a clear mind, a full heart, and a grounded presence. It improves my ability to listen, problem-solve, and stay creative. When I take care of myself, I’m not just more effective—I’m more inspired, and that directly benefits the people I serve.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Well, I’m a licensed esthetician based in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles. I run The Skinnie Hippie—a holistic, results-driven skincare studio that blends science with soul. I specialize in customized facials, acne treatments, and advanced modalities, but my real mission goes beyond just great skin. I’m here to create a safe, relaxing space where people can reconnect with themselves, feel empowered in their own skin, and leave glowing inside and out.

What makes my work special is the energy I bring to it. I infuse each treatment with intention, care, and education. Whether it’s incorporating more advanced treatments, tarot and oracle card readings, being a safe place where clients can relax or vent, or helping them gain back their confidence, I see skincare as a ritual—not just a routine. My clients often say they come to me for results, but stay for the experience, the conversations, and the sense of being deeply cared for.

In addition to seeing clients, I also teach aspiring estheticians and love mentoring the next generation of skincare professionals. Education is a huge part of my brand—both in the treatment room and online. I share skincare tips, myths, ingredient education, and holistic wellness topics on social media to help people feel more empowered in their skin journey.

As for what’s new, I’ve recently expanded my retail offerings to include curated skincare products and accessories from brands I genuinely believe in like GlyMed, DNA Skin Institute, Face Reality, and Odacité. I also host special events throughout the year, like “Pay What You Can” facial days and model calls, to give back and connect with my community in meaningful ways.

Whether you’re struggling with acne, seeking self-care, or just want a space to recharge, The Skinnie Hippie is here to support your glow—mind, body, and spirit.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The three qualities that have been the most impactful in my journey are empathy, resilience, and a willingness to always keep learning.

Empathy has helped me connect deeply with my clients and students. Skincare is so personal—people come in feeling vulnerable, frustrated, or unsure. Being able to hold space for them with compassion and without judgment has not only helped build trust, but also allowed me to guide them toward real transformation, inside and out.

Resilience has carried me through the challenges of being a solo business owner and navigating the ups and downs of this industry. There were times I felt unsure or overwhelmed, but staying rooted in my “why” helped me keep going. I’ve learned that success isn’t always loud or fast—it’s built through consistency, adaptability, and staying true to yourself.

And finally, a willingness to keep learning has been essential. The beauty and skincare world is always evolving. Staying curious—whether it’s about new ingredients, advanced treatments, holistic wellness, or even spiritual tools like tarot—has kept me inspired and allowed me to offer more to the people I serve.

My advice to anyone just starting out: Don’t try to be perfect. Focus on being present, asking questions, and building real relationships. Be a sponge—absorb everything you can, but also trust your intuition and your own voice. And remember, your energy and passion are just as valuable as your technique. Keep showing up with heart, and the rest will grow in time.

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?

My ideal client is someone who values both results and relaxation. I love working with teens and young adults who are struggling with acne and want real guidance, support, and education around their skin. I also love supporting older clients who are looking to age gracefully and want to invest in treatments and routines that keep their skin healthy and radiant over time.

That said, not every client comes in with a major skin concern—and that’s okay too! Some just want to enhance their natural beauty with a lash lift, a good brow wax and tint, or a relaxing facial that helps them feel more grounded and glowy. Whether someone is looking for clear skin, confidence, or a little self-care escape, I’m here to hold space, share my expertise, and create a personalized experience that leaves them feeling seen, supported, and beautiful.
