Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Leah Cunningham. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Leah, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
Even though this may sound cliché’, I found my purpose through pain. I suffered a severe heartbreak in 2008, when I broke off my engagement 3 weeks before walking down the aisle.
I went through a year of professional and spiritual counseling and it’s here where I discovered me! And I didn’t discover me “again” as many have said, but I discovered me…. the ‘real me’ through a years journey of ‘emotional healing. Soon after that my gift of emotional healing emerged. I then put in the work to cultivate it for the purpose of healing others. I have evolved into my purpose as an emotional health and wellness educator.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
As a motivational speaker, author and life coach, my professional services are helping people, mostly women, navigate through areas of their lives that are most problematic to them. I refer to them as life crises. All life crises are not the same. Some things aren’t thought of as crises at all to some people, but to others they are. However, the common denominator in them all, is usually pain. Typically, emotionally. I help them deal with emotional pain.
My brand is “Motivating Your Mind to Becoming a Healthier You” because everything starts with a thought!
And because everything starts with a thought, my services are helping people evaluate how they think about their lives, how they developed those thoughts and the beliefs they have about them. I don’t counsel, I’m not a therapist. I coach them through life and their thoughts. Help them process what just happened and how it made them feel and react. Then walk them through it to emotional wellness.
After working with many for years, I realized the most common denominator was an overwhelming “negative thought life.”
Therefore, as a motivational speaker and life coach, I then created a life coach ‘mind-training’ program “Motivating Your Mind to Becoming a Healthier You” using these (5) concepts:
Organize Your Thoughts
Dictate Your Actions
Change Your Habits
Create Your New Lifestyles
Develop a Healthier You
These tools help those in need live a “positive thought” life
As, an author–my newest product the release of my newest book:
Life Has a Purpose. Released 3/2023
This product helps many come full circle in life. The book helps us to discover your ‘greater self by going within yourself.’ We are all more than what we do, it’s who we were CREATED to be. We have untapped gifts. I talk about how it shows up in our lives in this book.
My first book, below, was released a few years following my heartbreak in 2008.
Bad Memories Sabotage Healthy Emotions. Released 3/2014
This book is about the many different traumas / crises of life that we experience and unless we become healed of them, the memories of them are relived like a nightmare on loop. And our attempt to lead healthy lives are stunted. The bad memories sabotage our healthy emotions for a lifetime until we deal with them.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
My own life experiences along with my formal education and degrees as a Professional Registered Nurse, an Emotional Health and Wellness Educator and an Ordained Minister, has gifted me in the area of emotional healing and wholeness, for others. I became ambidextrous in healing; in the natural and spiritual, addressing the entire body and providing solutions for the body to become whole.
As an advocate for women, these qualities have allowed me to assist many experiencing a life crisis. My ability to help them identify seasons in their life of great difficulty, which were a result from ’emotional hurts’, gave many hope for a better life and the push to begin their start in emotional wellness.
I would advise others don’t be afraid to ask AND accept help!
My personal journey to discovering my “life has a purpose” survived its own life crises, because I accepted help. No man is an island and I tell people that we all need someone to do life with. When I accepted help from those I trusted and wouldn’t judge me, I could be vulnerable enough to become healed.
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
My biggest challenge is — opportunity!
I desire more opportunities to help women. Particularly in group settings. I feel I have much to offer and have made differences in the lives of many women.
My primary reasons for wanting to teach in group settings:
1- Women can realize they are not alone. They will recognize that there are countless of other women feeling the same way and experiencing the same/similar problems.
2- Women learn from each other. We each develop different coping skills, communication tactics and healing processes that others may not have thought of that can help one another.
3- And lasty, but not all inclusively, trust is developed, vulnerability exits the building and bonds are built among the group. And women create their own support groups by the time their done.
I am trying to overcome this situation, by trying to gain more exposure and letting people know what I offer.
I don’t measure the size of the groups or type and determine how much I will give. Each life is as equally important as the next in the room, even if it’s only one!
I have and will continually work with people on a 1:1 basis until they know that their ‘Life Has A Purpose’
