We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Leanne Trivett S.. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Leanne below.
Hi Leanne, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
From the earliest moments of my life, I was facinated by the world of music and theater—both places where stories are woven through sound, movement, and emotion. Over time, I began to realize that my purpose wasn’t tied to a specific art form, but rather to a singular mission: to share narratives. Whether through the rhythm of a melody, the dialogue of a play, or the lens of a camera, my medium has always been the same—my voice, my vision, my way of connecting with the world.
Today, I express this purpose through photography and experimental self-portraiture. Each photograph I capture is a chapter, a fragment of the larger narrative I’ve been living. It’s my way of uncovering the layers of identity, emotion, and experience—often through the most intimate lens. The stories I tell now may be silent, but they are no less alive. They are reflections of my journey, my truth, and the endless stories that continue to unfold

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Artist Statement
I am a visual artist that uses photography to narrate and construct identity in self portraiture and experimental florals, to delve into the abstract, and to capture interplay of details and color in the realm of emotion. Drawing inspiration from my theatrical and vocal performance background, I strive to explore and connect psyche, spirit, ego, and soul: creating current characters with personal and dynamic stories. I like to capture scenes from my play, and I also like the out takes. It is my desire to connect to the viewer in a meaningful way by exploring multiple sides of me: the light and dark, the quiet and the movement, and the smooth and textured. I use my camera and eye for detail to visit the complicated fringe of my personality and my relationships. Every photo I take is a part of my curiosity and “double” inner world. I seek a connection to self and the audience in that space of duality, building a bridge through emotion and humanity.
All of my imagery is created by personal photographs that I take with my cameras.

More information:
Photography for me is more than a craft; it’s a way of exploring and expressing the complexity of identity, the fluidity of self, and the beauty in the unseen. Through self-portraiture, I dive deep into the layers that make us who we are—challenging and reimagining what it means to truly look at ourselves. My work invites vulnerability and introspection, capturing moments where the personal meets the universal, and where art becomes a mirror to our shared human experience.
One of the most exciting and special things about my art is the freedom to experiment and push boundaries. I love playing with the unexpected—whether it’s through abstract forms, experimental self-portraits, or my recent work with flowers, where I explore the delicate and ephemeral nature of life. There’s something profoundly magical in the way light, color, and texture come together to reveal hidden narratives in nature, just as much as there is in the stories we carry within ourselves.
I also work from my studio, a space where ideas flow freely and where the process of creating is as important as the final image. This environment allows me to take risks, to fail, and to grow. I truly believe that art is a constant evolution, and every project is an opportunity to push my own boundaries.
Another aspect of my practice that I hold close to my heart is my connection with other artists. The exchange of ideas and experiences is vital to my creative journey. Whether it’s through collaborative projects, conversations, or simply sharing our passions, there’s something profoundly energizing about being part of a larger community that inspires and challenges one another.
I’m also passionate about teaching and sharing the joy of creativity with others. Through photography workshops, I get to witness people tap into their own artistic expression, seeing the world through new eyes, and learning to trust their instincts. For me, there’s no greater gift than helping others realize their creative potential.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, three qualities stand out as the pillars of my journey: perseverance, standing by my work, and experimentation. Perseverance has been my anchor, especially during those moments when the path forward felt unclear. The most important lesson I’ve learned is to stand by my work, no matter how vulnerable it may feel. Trusting myself and my vision has been key to building confidence and finding my true voice. And above all, experimentation has been my constant companion—pushing me to break free from patterns and discover new ways of seeing and creating.
To those just starting their own journey, my advice is simple: never give up, especially when things get tough. Create for yourself, not for others, because only when you’re true to your own vision can the work truly resonate. And don’t be afraid to experiment—those bold leaps of creative freedom often lead to breakthroughs that take you to unexpected, beautiful places

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was letting go of their own expectations and fully supporting my dreams. Instead of pushing me toward what they envisioned, they let that go, and encouraged me to follow my passion for music and theater. Their unwavering belief in me fueled my journey all the way to New York for my education. They always said, ‘Go for it, and work very, very hard.’ That constant support, paired with their trust in my path, gave me the confidence to chase my dreams. I will be forever grateful for this.
