We were lucky to catch up with Leanne Walton recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Leanne, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I grew up on a farm in Central Illinois and working hard was instilled in us from a young age. Farming is not a 9-5, clock in and out job. It is a lifestyle grounded in discipline, teamwork and in our family’s case, faith. Watching my grandfather and father put their heart and soul into providing for us and help feed the world truly inspired me to find something that I was passionate about, something where I could make a difference in the community and to help people. I believe it was my upbringing that guided me into understanding the call God placed on my life. Watching my parents live out their calling has made such an impact on my life and the lives of my children. The farm has created a legacy of hard work that is multigenerational.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
At the age of 12, I knew I wanted to facilitate the body’s innate ability to heal itself through chiropractic care. Pursuing that dream, I received her Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from North Central College in Naperville, IL, and Doctorate from Palmer Chiropractic College in Davenport, IA. Now, after many years of experience in the field, I can confidently say I have witnessed the enormous benefit of chiropractic care in people of all ages. I was an associate doctor for the first 8 years in practice, then after having my children and completing our family, my husband, Dan and I prayed about opening my own practice. We opened Walton Chiropractic in January 2o2o. My “why” behind Walton Chiropractic is to improve the health of America by eliminating the subluxation complex in entire families. Since opening, Walton Chiropractic, God has richly blessed my practice with the most incredible patients. Four years ago, Walton Chiropractic joined a group of amazing practitioners to create a state of the art practice that provides multiple holistic services to offer patients the ability to receive whole body wellness under one roof. It has been an enormous success and we just moved into our new facility in May of this year.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I believe the three qualities would be hard work, grit and faith. Getting to this point in my career, I have had major set backs, times of discouragement, fear and doubt. All of these, I believe are the enemy trying to keep me from doing exactly what God called me to do. We are human and going to have insecurities, but my advice would be to silence all the noise that is telling you, you can’t. Remember your why. Remember what drove you to run after this dream. Focus on that.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
This is an easy one for me.
My life would be so different without this one moment in my life.
Growing up, I had an amazing childhood with very present and supportive parents. They encouraged me to always give 110 percent and to let nothing stop me from reaching my goals. They set the foundation in a Christian home, helped me thrive in Christian education, they were at every event, drove my all over the country to play volleyball, moved me in and out of dorm rooms and apartments during my 8 years of college and medical school. They were there, they were constant.
But the most impactful moment happened when I was in my first trimester of medical school. A little backstory, school came easy to me. I was high school valedictorian, graduating at the top of my class in my undergrad, and I worked hard, but never struggled in school. Until medical school first trimester. Medical school was a whole different ball game. Everything I thought about studying and preparing was not the same. So after receiving my first D ever on an exam, I called my parents and told them to come get me, I was done. I was not going to be a Chiropractor. And my parents could have easily hung up, drove 2 hours to rescue their little girl, but they didn’t. My dad said, “Leanne, I know this is hard, but finish out the trimester and if you still want me to come get you, I will,” This is the statement that changed my life. My dad knew me so well. He knew my character and my work ethic. He knew I wouldn’t settle for less. He knew I would pull myself up by my bootstraps and get it done. And that’s what I did. I finished the semester with all A’s , found a community of friends, and was so excited about my future. Four years later, I graduated from chiropractic school in the top ten of my class as Leanne Walton, Doctor of Chiropractic.
My parents could have come and “saved” me. But then I would not be the doctor I am today. I would not have the incredible fulfillment of living out my calling. I wouldn’t have met and helped all the people I am blessed to call my patients. One decision and their wisdom truly changed my life. And now every time I am faced with a challenge, I think of this moment and hear my parents say, “work hard, give 110% and we are so proud of you!”
