Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lehxy. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Lehxy, so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?
Being the only one who looks like me in a room used to feel like a spotlight, exposing every perceived flaw. But now, it’s a stage where I command the narrative. I remember my first bodybuilding competition, the sea of faces blurring into a wall of judgment. I was different, an outlier in a world of conformity. But beneath the surface, a fire ignited. I sculpted my body, not just for the trophies, but to prove to myself that I could defy expectations. That stage became my crucible, forging a champion’s spirit within me.
Then came the music. July 2023, my first single dropped, and the industry felt like a chaotic symphony where I was determined to conduct my own melody. Blending Hip Hop, Trap, Drill, Afro beats, Brazilian Funk, Urban Latin, and Dembow—it was a sonic tapestry woven with my soul. “Hakuna Matata” became more than a phrase; it was my mantra, a reminder that worries are just shadows in the light of my dreams. The law of affirmation and manifestation became my compass, guiding me through the labyrinth of doubt. I spoke my truth into the universe, and it echoed back with unwavering support.
But amidst the glitz and glamour, I found solace in routine. The gym became my sanctuary, each rep a prayer, each bead of sweat a testament to my resilience. And my pursuit of a master’s degree in nutrition science grounded me, reminding me that true strength comes from within. Seven years into a twelve-year odyssey, I’m not just chasing a degree; I’m nurturing my mind, body, and spirit. Above all, I learned to love myself fiercely, unapologetically. It’s this self-love that empowers me to walk into any room, own my uniqueness, and leave an indelible mark on every soul I touch. Being the only one who looks like me is no longer a burden; it’s my anthem, my legacy, my revolution.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Hey, so what I do is basically spin stories into gold, making words dance and leap off the page. What’s most exciting is the hunt for that perfect phrase, the one that unlocks a whole new level of understanding or emotion. It’s like being an alchemist, turning the mundane into something magical.
As for my brand, it’s all about authenticity. No fluff, no pretense, just raw, unfiltered expression. I want my work to resonate with people on a soul level, to spark conversations and inspire change. I’m always experimenting, pushing boundaries, and exploring new ways to connect with my audience.
And speaking of new things, I’m currently working on my second album, building off my catalog of nine songs all written in San Diego, CA. I’m heading back to the West Coast this November to write my first second album ever. Stay tuned, because it’s gonna be a wild ride!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, the three most impactful qualities in my journey have been relentless curiosity, adaptability, and a knack for connecting with people. Curiosity fuels the drive to explore new ideas and perspectives, leading to unexpected discoveries and growth. Adaptability allows me to navigate the ever-changing landscape of the creative world, embracing new technologies and approaches. And the ability to connect with people helps me build meaningful relationships, collaborate effectively, and understand the needs and desires of my audience.
For those early in their journey, my advice would be to cultivate these qualities by actively seeking out new experiences, embracing failure as a learning opportunity, and prioritizing genuine human connection. Read widely, travel often, and engage in conversations with people from all walks of life. Don’t be afraid to experiment and take risks, and always stay true to your unique voice and vision.
Ultimately, the journey of a creative is a marathon, not a sprint. It requires patience, perseverance, and a willingness to continually learn and grow. By focusing on these key qualities and skills, you’ll be well-equipped to navigate the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, and to make a meaningful impact on the world through your work.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
Ray Crumpler, my dad and manager, has been the most helpful because he’s always the one I can talk to about the unique challenges I face in “Hollywood.” He truly understands what it’s like to take off and reach the top. And of course, I, Lehxy, have been a rock for myself, providing the strength and resilience needed to navigate this journey.
