Meet Lelo Martinez

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lelo Martinez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Lelo, you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?

It does definitely come from my grandmother. She was such a generous woman, who was always giving to others, specially to those in need. Those who used to find a shelter under her loving and big heart. Since I was a little girl, she inspired me in unimaginable ways how she used to support us. I remember seen our home filled up with relatives visiting from out of town. Our home will become a “hotel Mama” from time to time. And beyond her grandmother role, for me, she was my angel protector on earth.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

What I do to serve others, is the result of many years of inner work and self-discovery, as well as a whole life immersed in studies. From graduating as an Economist from College, until the continuing education in Languages, Health, Nutrition, and my last addition, Reiki Healing. This has become a blending of Health, Languages, and Healing journeys.

My self-healing journey started when I was just a little girl, when my gastrointestinal health was at its worst. Doctors sent me lots of pills and medications, but even though I tried them, I remember they made me feel nauseous and sicker. So I was determined that there was a better way. I grew up seeing my Grandma giving us herbs and natural remedies, so guided by her intuition and healing gifts, I knew deep inside me that I will find a better way to get healing. Soon after that deep down health diagnosis, in 2010 to be precise, I moved out of town to pursue my studies in Economics, my College was in another state, so I had to move there. This is when my moment came, I was on my own, cooking and eating just my own food. My whole lifestyle was shaped by my new self guidance, and as I was doing my Bachelor’s Degree, I was in this self healing journey. It took me over 10 years to finally feel great in my own skin. I have invested my whole life, financial resources and time into finding and applying self-healing techniques.

On the other hand, learning languages has always been my passion. When I was in High School, I dedicated years to teaching English to other students of lower grades. Then, I wanted to become fluent in English as my Second Language, so I moved to the US with that as my goal while in the states. I came to the US straight into College with an ESL program. Due to my academic background, soon I was proficient in English. So I started to teach English to Latino Communities at a Non-Profit organization in Stamford, Connecticut. Surprisingly, my students got results so fast that they made me realize that Coaching languages is something I love doing, and that it’s worth doing since my students really achieve results with my Coaching style. Therefore, I felt motivated to Coach Languages. I do Coach Spanish as well, I do it to Native American Speakers, since Spanish is my first language and I serve as a platform to connect both cultures, the Latino and North-American. So I am currently taking in new students that want to learn English or Spanish. I do it in-virtual and in-person settings as well. I do 1-1 classes and group sessions too.

Back to my Health Coaching beginnings. In 2020, after getting and applying my Certifications in Holistic Health & Nutrition, in the dark times of the Pandemic, I found myself in my best time ever. Feeling radiant, full of energy, and in my healthiest life state. So I received a call in my consciousness that revealed to me that I have to dedicate my life to serve others in their healing journeys. That as I saw all the people dying from Covid and getting sicker, I have to support the world with Holistic ways to heal from the inside out. My motivation and passion for Health and Wellness have grown since then. Coaching humanity to heal, and guiding them in their health journeys.

I do events such as Reiki Infused Sound Baths, Webinars, and Workshops. I currently offer 1-1 Coaching Sessions and Programs, for both: Health or Languages. I love giving tailored coaching to my clients unique needs. My approach is Holistic and loving, I coach from a place of Compassion and Love, creating a safe space for my clients to feel seen, understood, and heard. My emphatic gifts allow me to feel their own pain and tune with their needs, which guides me to provide personalized coaching and healing treatments. When it comes to my Language Coaching, I focus on supporting my students’ learning styles and I apply mindset transformation to get them feel more confident, joyful, and eliminate mental barriers to learning another language. We have fun while learning, and we believe that making mistakes is part of the process of learning another language, and I am there to cherish them at any stage of their Language journey, making them feel safe and supported.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I would say: resilience, follow my truth, and getting help from Coaches and others that reach what I was looking for. I feel like we all have unique journeys, and when it comes to Health and self improvement, “one size does not fit all”. So what I would advise is to stick to your truth. Be patient and persistent in the process. Like the cocoon took a while to become its most beautiful self, there are stages in our journey where we are working hard and we may not see results at the light, but trust in the process and believe that one day, you will be a butterfly. Life is filled with surprises, ups and downs for all of us. The beauty of it is that we are never alone. There are amazing people out there who have helped me in my journey, and that same love and generosity I received from them has helped me shine brighter. So reach for help, you don’t have to do it alone. As a Coach, I love helping others to reduce the time of suffering, by sharing my gifts and knowledge so they can heal and learn languages faster than if they do it on their own.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?

Oh my goodness. This is a tough one. I have had many mentors, coaches and beautiful souls who have helped me overcome obstacles along the way. For all of them my heart fills up with enormous gratitude. Let’s pick that person who has impacted me to heal my heart, I would say: Alejandra Pumarejo. She is an amazing Colombian woman. She helped me heal my heart from grieving my grandmother, as well as connecting to my inner child in ways I never knew it existed. I want to mention her because, at the root of everything we do in life, our heart projects so much. By healing my broken heart, I was able to expand into a better, more healed version of me, that allows me to help others to heal.
