We recently connected with Lenka Ulrichova and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Lenka, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I think my resilience has been shaped by necessity as much as by choice. Life handed me some very hard moments — including a breast cancer diagnosis that changed everything. That experience forced me to confront fear, uncertainty, and loss on a level I never imagined. And strangely, in the aftermath, I found an inner strength I didn’t know I had.
But resilience, for me, isn’t about “pushing through” or pretending everything is fine. It’s about allowing myself to feel — to grieve, to fall apart if needed — and still come back to myself. I find strength in softness. In beauty. In creativity. Photography has always been my sanctuary. When I’m behind the camera, I feel powerful, present, and connected to something greater.
Each time I pick up my camera, I remember: even after pain, beauty is still possible.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m a Los Angeles–based photographer originally from the Czech Republic, and my work focuses on beauty, fashion, and celebrity. I strive to create elevated, visually compelling imagery that blends classic elegance with a contemporary edge. Whether I’m shooting an editorial, a commercial beauty campaign, or a portrait, I aim to produce photographs that are both refined and emotionally engaging.
Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work with publications such as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, InStyle, Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan, Grazia, The Hollywood Reporter, and Los Angeles Magazine. I recently signed with Trunk Archive and am currently focused on expanding my commercial and editorial partnerships, particularly within the beauty and fashion industries. I’m also developing a conceptual photography series with the intention of presenting it in a gallery context in the future — a project that explores my more artistic and experimental side.
At the heart of my work is the desire to create visuals that are not only technically strong, but emotionally resonant.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
For me, the most impactful qualities have been resilience and trusting my taste and visual instincts. Resilience has helped me navigate the unpredictability of a creative career — the rejections, the slow seasons, and the moments of self-doubt that are part of the process. Just as important has been developing a strong eye — staying open to collaboration and new ideas while staying grounded in my own visual sensibility.
My advice to those starting out would be this: Stay curious. Stay kind. And create from a place that feels true to you.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
Without a doubt, my husband has been the most helpful and supportive presence in my journey. He’s been there through every challenge — encouraging me to stay the course when things got difficult, reminding me of my strengths when I lost sight of them, and offering steady perspective when I felt overwhelmed. His belief in me helped build my confidence, and his grounded nature helped me stay focused and resilient, even in uncertain times.
