Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Leonardo Escarcega. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Leonardo, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
Purpose has been rooted in me every since I was a little boy. My parents always taught me to work hard for what I wanted. Their teachings gave my life the foundation I needed to find my purpose in life. I’ve heard that life without purpose is a failure and we must find our purpose if we truly want to be successful. The way you find purpose is by taking action. Create a clear vision of what you truly want to achieve, it’s very hard to find purpose if you don’t have it. A clear vison will allow you to find purpose without deviating from the main ideas. You must also give back in return. You can’t expect to gain something without giving anything in return.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Hello, my name is Leonardo. I’m a thirty two year old music composer currently living in OC, California. Music is my passion. I’m currently working very closely with “Paint the Noise” and “Sync The Noise” two companies created by CEO and lead composer of the HBO Max series “The Garcia’s” my friend Gilde Flores. We founded this company years ago and we are currently creating a business model to expand within the sync industry. We are not only thinkin in providing custom music services, we’re also thinking in helping new creatives to achieve their goals. Our main objective is to expand in ways that will benefit many in different aspects of this very competitive industry.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Thinking back when I started my music journey. The very skill that comes to mind was the ability to dissect sound . I remember that the more I trained my musical ears I developed new ways of hearing music in a much more detailed way. I was able to to tell and distinguish the elements within a musical composition. I was also able to tell what sounds were used for a specific genre. For example I knew that I couldn’t use the same snare sound In a rock track for an orchestral track. I developed a sense of musicality and structure and better ways of creating a musical piece.
The second skill that comes to mind was the ability to communicate within the industry. I developed the networking skills that led me where I am today. In this industry it’s a requirement to have great communication skills because it’s important to be able to speak and deliver a message clearly with the clients or creators.
Last but not least the third skill would be the ability to apply different techniques, like being able to improvise, add on, or create a musical composition from scratch without the fear of not knowing your tools. Knowing your tools will enhance your ability to create rapidly and efficiently.
The best way to develop these skills is by practicing every day. Talent without work is nothing.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
I have to give credit where credit is due. I wouldn’t be where I’m at if it wasn’t for my mentor and friend Gilde Flores, He has helped my tremendously in every aspect. He taught me the very core things I know. He provided me with work and that opportunities that one can only dream of. He taught me the importance of hard work, dedication and commitment, among many other beautiful things that shaped the person and creative I am today. I also have to give thanks to my parents for teaching me the importance, of the principles of purpose, and desire. That that one needs to fight for their dreams, no matter what. They taught me that the only way to kill a dream is by making it reality. Overall I wouldn’t be where I’m at if it wasn’t for the creator of this universe. he’s been my guide all along.
