Meet Leonardo Huertas

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Leonardo Huertas a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Leonardo, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.

Optimism doesn’t only come from attitude. It is a trainable skill, just like a tennis shot we must train it, and for that we need 3 main sources. Preparation, strong mentality and experience. Internal dialogue is key to seeing opportunities instead of problems.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am Leonardo Huertas. Sports professional and sports coach. I am currently an athlete and I was a tennis player and I am the founder of the sports club LHA Sports. Where I am a tennis coach, running coach and speaker. I run charity running races to contribute my grain of sand to the elderly and homeless people of my city. My purpose in life is to inspire my students and society to play sports and improve their quality of life. The conference project is called keep going. Where we encourage, give a voice of encouragement and provide tools to keep going in the face of falls and obstacles that arise on the path called life. We give lectures in sports clubs, schools, companies where motivational talks are given about resilience and mental strength taking into account inspiring stories of athletes. I was a member of the match tennis foundation where I learned the meaning of living to serve, it was a very enriching experience for my life. Currently I continue studying and training to give my students and all the people to whom we have access a message of hope and change through sport. I am convinced that study and sport are the key to transform, change and inspire society.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The qualities that I highlight the most are my discipline, empathy and vision. The advice I would give is that as long as you have passion for what you do, be consistent day after day in achieving your dreams and have a clear vision of your life purpose. Life itself will reward you.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?

The most striking thing about Eckhart Tolle’s The Power of Now is the insight that most human suffering comes not from external circumstances, but from our resistance to the present moment. Tolle shows us how the mind, with its constant thoughts about the past and the future, prevents us from experiencing the peace that can only be found in the now.
