Meet Lesley Shelley

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lesley Shelley. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lesley below.

Hi Lesley, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
To be completely transparent, I work on this daily. The development of my confidence and self-esteem has been a journey marked by intentional efforts and self-discovery. I’ve made it a daily practice to affirm myself and redirect any destructive, negative, or doubtful thoughts that might arise. I realized that it is important for me to encourage myself despite what others might say or think and in spite of any challenge I may face. Understanding the impact of my beliefs on my capabilities has been a game-changer for me.

There was a pivotal moment when I recognized that fear was acting as a barrier, paralyzing my progress. It was a revelation – I needed to become fearless. Once I made that decision, it became a commitment to myself. I owed it to myself to manifest the life I desire, the thriving business I envision, and the version of myself I yearn for. I persuaded myself that I could do anything. I realized that my progress was hindered only by my own fears, and I took it upon myself to conquer them.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
As a dedicated nutritionist, my focus revolves around enhancing individual wellness. My multifaceted approach extends beyond individual counseling, encompassing diverse roles in research and spearheading initiatives dedicated to advancing nutrition education and preventive nutrition within underserved communities. The enthusiasm I bring into the new year is fueled by the overwhelming support I’ve garnered and the myriad of exciting opportunities that have unfolded. I am truly grateful for the increased visibility and recognition my brand and business have received.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
My leadership skills have been paramount in shaping my journey. I’ve witnessed the transformative impact of my leadership through effective organization, collaborative goal management, and transparent communication of processes and desired outcomes. Another key attribute contributing to my success is discipline. I pride myself on my strong sense of discipline, and I’ve come to realize the remarkable positive transformations it has brought about in my role as a business owner. This quality not only promotes thoughtful decision-making for me but also shields me from impulsive responses, leading to a more calm and focused approach to crucial choices. Additionally, my commitment to active listening has proven indispensable in enhancing my communication skills. Embracing diverse perspectives and experiences enriches my approach and engagement, which I believe makes me a more effective and empathetic leader. In my opinion, I can’t be successful if I can’t listen to others.

What would you advise – going all in on your strengths or investing on areas where you aren’t as strong to be more well-rounded?
Both. I firmly believe in the power of maximizing one’s strengths and not letting any talent, skill, or gift go to waste. It’s essential to harness your inherent abilities while actively seeking improvement in areas where you may not be as strong. The combination of leveraging existing strengths and acquiring new skills acts as a positive catalyst for personal and professional growth. Acknowledging areas of weakness is equally crucial, allowing for strategic outsourcing or collaboration when needed. Success doesn’t demand omniscience or mastery in every aspect; rather, it involves the strategic fusion of resources and skills. In my own journey, I recognized the importance of seeking assistance in marketing and technology, recognizing these as areas not aligned with my strengths. “Get somebody else to do it.” By doing so, I invested in opportunities to stay abreast of developments in nutrition, nutrition research, and food systems, honing the skills crucial to my career. This approach not only enhanced my proficiency but also reinforced the idea that success is often a collaborative effort, where pulling together diverse resources and tools leads to reaching one’s fullest potential.
