Meet Leslie Black

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Leslie Black. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Leslie, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I’d like to think that my purpose found me, but I do remember when it finally clicked for me. I know that my purpose is to creating dynamic characters through the art of film. When I’m performing my job is to always captivate the viewers regardless of the realm of my performance. If I’m doing a comedy I want to make people laugh, if I’m doing drama I want to make people cry, and if I’m doing action and I want to take the audience on a thrill ride. As long as I’ve evoked emotion in some capacity then I know I’ve done my job.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m an actress currently based in the Atlanta market. I’m managed by MLU Management. The Jana Van Dyke Agency represents me in Atlanta. Promote Talent represents me in Chicago, and Exclusive Artist Agency represents me in the LA and NY Market. I’m a very versatile actress who wears her heart on her sleeve. I take my craft very seriously. I have several projects that are coming up. “Call Me Now” a feature film about the notable psychic Cleo. A feature film called “Muzzle” starring Aaron Eckhart. I play a lead in a highly anticipated feature film coming to BET next year called “For What Its Worth”. I recently guest starred in Chicago Med’s latest season as Jessica Micheals on episode 9.

I’ve also produced a short film called “Celia’s Cabin” that I star in.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three areas that I have found most impactful on my journey is resilience. The path can be hard sometimes, but it’s important to stay the course regardless of any obstacles that may come your way. Training is also extremely important. I’ve been blessed to work with some amazing coaches. Also, I really think networking is key. Getting out and meeting people and making sure your name is always ringing will help you stay on the top of peoples minds when they are considering talent.

I would tell people who are early on in the journey to enjoy the journey don’t rush it and don’t take short cuts. You need to take all the steps to be as impactful as possible

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
My entire team from my agents, acting coach, publicist to management etc. has impacted my career in ways that I could never imagine. I’ve learned something from each of them along the way and it has helped mold me into the talent I am today. I’m forever grateful.
