Meet Leslie Cabral

We recently connected with Leslie Cabral and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Leslie , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

I found my purpose when I discovered true mindful eating. True mindful eating, contrary to what’s being publicized in social media, has nothing to do with portion control or restriction.

True mindful eating is about rediscovering a healthy and joyful relationship with food. It involves bringing one’s full attention to the process of eating—to all the tastes, smells, thoughts, and feelings that arise during a meal. Now I show people how to do the same by helping them tune into their body’s own wisdom about what, when, and how much to eat which enables them to naturally change their sabotaging habits and patterns with food without needing discipline or will power.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I started dieting to lose weight. But that completely backfired. The stricter I got with my eating, the more out of control I felt: the cravings increased, and it was a constant fight between trying to be “good,” and failing. Even though I managed to stick to my diet for a while, I always ended up giving in and binging on all the prohibited foods. I struggled so much with food and sugar cravings. I felt addicted to the act of eating. I kept going up and down 20-30 pounds.

I didn’t want to continue this cycle my whole life, so I became determined to find a better way. I wanted to be able to eat without having to restrict or cut out any foods AND I wanted to be able to lose the excess weight and maintain it. I wanted to feel a sense of ease when eating without having to control food. I was able to do this when I discovered true mindful eating.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Trusting my intuition when it says something isn’t right, refusing to fit into a mold and having the resilience and persistence to find the answers.

My advice would be to trust yourself over anyone else when it comes to how you do life. Although “experts” (and our own minds) love to tell us that we’re lazy, unmotivated, making excuses or lack self-discipline for not sticking to a diet – the opposite is true – so many of us have tried EVERYTHING that’s out there. It’s not about lack of effort. It is all about having the courage to step away from the noise and start to build self-trust. That is the first step in making changes that last.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
