Meet Leslie Saenz

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Leslie Saenz. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Leslie, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.

My sunny outlook comes from the glimmers in each day; savoring the small moments. It is my sunniness that I use as armor against the harsh realities of life.My optimism comes from choosing to see the lighter side because letting oneself be swallowed by despair is not a path I want. It is a path I actively resist each day. I am able to because of the love my support network gives and through releasing myself in my works. I have muddled my way through each challenge. Even when I fail I learn from it to refine and improve. Getting up by one self is not easy feat yet with an incredible support network anything can happen. I would not be where I am without the kindness of my support system. The horrors persist but so do I.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Hello my name is Leslie; I am a multi media Mexican queer artist. My art is a blend of daring color and whimsy. My main mediums are resin and acrylic pour painting.I love to make accessories for you and your life with my brand Prism Minx. Bringing glimmers to your world from my little pink tent.

My style with everything is vivid choices of color and extra glitter for pizzazz. With my art, I love to celebrate life and embrace anyone that it may resonate with no matter color shape or form.

In the last I have become immersed in the magical world of fantasy events. At the beginning of the year, I paired up with Holly of @metbymoonlightevents to dream up a pair of crowns fit specifically for the queen and king of the forest, Titania and Oberyn of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The crowns were featured in a giveaway in anticipation of A Midsummer night’s dream ball on July 20th in Atlanta. From collaborative vision to physical crowns, it was an incredible and rewarding journey.

Every event leads to new opportunities, and I am always making connections to bring more art to the world. I am now pairing with @midgawhimsicalmasqueradeball on another special project for their own whimsical masquerade ball happening December 6 in Warner Robins.
When I’m not at a ball, I am out vending at local events and breweries with my little pink Prism Minx tent. We vended with @Sudnatstudios in Suwanee and were able to include our shop dog in the fun for the first time. Then, we did a double whammy of Atlanta/Athens with @Mysticdistrict and @Gothresidencyofthearts the weekend of 4/20! It was so inspiring to see the creative community come together, and we were able to reconnect with some of the same vendors from previous markets. Our most recent event took us all the way to Smyrna for the mead and metal market with Viking Alchemist meadery. The next place you can catch us will be at Blackstrap music hall in Gainesville. For more dates check out our instagram page. I am always working on developing and improving new fun works.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

As a self-taught artist, I’ve had to learn by making mistakes and persistently trying. A major lesson I have learned is to know when to pivot. As artists, we can get so caught up with projects that we lose sight of the joyful expression that art can be. Sometimes, we must step away and come back with fresh eyes. I often find that, by switching projects to what brings me the most joy, I can find ways to complete the main project. Trusting the process is a must! Allow yourself the space to be creatively chaotic. To me there’s nothing more satisfying than pulling my project out of the nest of scraps and materials.

One of the hardest lessons I’ve ever had to learn as an artist is to measure my ambition. During the planning phase, there are always countless layers of inspiration and potential possibilities. It can be all too easy to let an idea grab you and grow until it goes way beyond the scope of what you are able to do. As much as art sustains the spirit, we still have to remember our human bodies, we do have limits. I try my best to break up the process of creation to not burn myself out.

My advice to anyone wanting to be an artist is to just do it! You are an artist and anyone can create. You don’t have to make money off your art to enjoy it. Try different mediums to see how things feel; you never know what will inspire you next. You don’t have to have the fanciest tools to be an artist, just a passion and want to create.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I am open to partnering and collaborating with anyone. I truly believe that there’s room at the top for everyone. We just have to lift each other up. I’m looking to partner with anyone that is an event organizer,a creative or local business. They must be some sort of magical, creative, fun or offbeat; otherwise they might get lost in the chaotic creativity that helps me thrive.
