Meet Letty Cabrera-Calvo

We recently connected with Letty Cabrera-Calvo and have shared our conversation below.

Letty, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My father always told me I could do anything in this country. The opportunities were endless as long as we obtained a great education and worked hard, we could achieve any goal.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Our story is unique in that we did not set out to start a business. In 2013, I went back to school to obtain my MBA and it was during a summer “Shark Tank” type course that I invented the very first instant brush cleaner for a school project. I put our Color Switch on social media and it went viral. Within a month, we had a full blown business out of our tiny garage.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Perseverance, the discovery of my true passion and skills (product development), dream without conditions. My advice, is to stop doubting your creation or business idea and go for it. You don’t want to be 85 years old, look back and think “what if”.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
Our Color Switch invention has been copied by every major beauty company, which has bankrupt us several times but we have managed to continue to create innovative products that lift us back up.
