Meet Levi Sundquist

We were lucky to catch up with Levi Sundquist recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Levi, so happy you were able to devote some time to sharing your thoughts and wisdom with our community. So, we’ve always admired how you have seemingly never let nay-sayers or haters keep you down. Can you talk to us about how to persist despite the negative energy that so often is thrown at folks trying to do something special with their lives?

I always push myself, and remind myself how far i’ve made it with all the work I’ve put into this project and passion that i’ve maintained for music. Sometimes people will tend to see the kind of music I mix and create, and they won’t necessarily understand or see the passion that I put into it, especially given that the culture surrounding electronic music is sometimes stereotyped by drugs and partying. However, one thing I pride myself on is having a true passion and love for the actual culture around electronic music, as well as the music itself. I think that’s one thing that people forget or don’t understand, is that there is more to the culture than partying and substance use, it’s about showing love to others, creating a dope vibe, and truly having an experience.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m originally from Seattle, grew up in Washington State born and raised. Always loved music growing up, between my mom and dad playing a good amount of different stuff ranging from blues, to 90’s jazz like some Kenny G, and all in-between. It wasn’t until the time I was about 10 or 11, and I was on this camping trip with my family and some cousins and his friends, roughly 2011 I think. We we’re just chilling and playing some music when all of a sudden I hear this track that was nothing like I had heard before called “Hold Me Close” by Flux Pavilion. I remember watching my cousin’s friends all dancing and goofing around to it, but for some reason it just was something new and resonated with me. After that trip I began deep diving into finding that song along with others like it, and that’s when I discovered EDM as a whole as well as Dubstep, which put me into what I do today.

My name is Hellion, and I am a DJ and producer of Electronic Dance Music, specifically more so in Dubstep and Riddim, however I dabble in other genres and sounds in other projects. The reason I find this project special and exciting, is the energy that comes with it. Being able to play some of my own as well as other’s music in front of people is such a rush, especially when people get as energetic as I am behind the turntables. The way I see it, is music is a form of connecting with people, and for me especially that has been true. I have made so many friends and connections through music and it’s always been a part of my life.

I have a lot of new stuff coming both under this alias as well as some others. Right now, I am also working on another alias called “Mr. Hero” which right now is some of my more experimental stuff and music that is different genres and styles. Hoping to announce some shows soon as well!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I think one of the most important things i’ve learned during working on this project and music in general, is not to not lose the vision. There have definitely been times where it is rough and a lot of times people don’t understand the passion or vision and it can be frustrating. However, with the people that do support and show love, as well as reminding myself of why I do what I do, it helps set my mind back on path get me back into a space where I’m able to create. One thing to keep in mind when starting or pursuing a project in music, is to understand and remember what you are doing it for. A lot of times people begin creating music for fun and also to convey feelings, and it’s important to not forget that.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

I am definitely looking for more people to collaborate with when it comes to creating music, mixing, performing sets. I’m mainly just looking for people who are passionate about music, passionate about the culture, creative minds looking to make something cool but also something meaningful. For those looking to collaborate I have my social medias, as well as my soundcloud where I post my music.
