We were lucky to catch up with Lex Smith recently and have shared our conversation below.
Lex, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
In my line of work, as a Spiritual Consultant, I have been faced with every type of adversity, in every dimension, you can imagine. From former bosses and colleagues, to whole institutions that have attempted to copy my intellectual property or siphon my time, energy and resources. And, that’s just in the real world. In the spiritual world, adversity once manifested as confrontation with witches, pastors, hypnotists, yoga studio owners, and literal demons and tricksters. I have had men and women both tell me that my business will fail, I’m not allowed to do it “that way,” and go so far as to cast spells to slow my progress. To be born a woman is to have naysayers. But dare to be a woman and go after your dreams? Or at the very least, not adhere to the normal societal expectations? Now that’s warfare!
As both an entrepreneur and spiritual leader, it has taken a grand elixir of courage, grit, resilience, and ambition, along with some sprinkles of book smarts and street smarts and a whole lot of prayers and affirmations to persist despite the forces against me. Oh and of course, a whole lot of divinity, mercy and forgiveness working in my favor. Gratitude for that always!
For me; growing up in the South thickened my skin. I was exposed to the world at a young age. As the youngest girl thrown into a family unit of an older brother, all boy cousins, and parents who (despite their best efforts) just didn’t know what to do with me, it’s safe to say that people crossed my boundaries early and often. Getting older and running a business has blessed me with the growing skill set that enables me to set clear and consistent boundaries. I’ve learned not to play games and give in to the spinning of wheels that my adversaries want to place on me. And despite the haters, I don’t blame them for their actions. Business owners, entrepreneurs and especially women who hold Vision must learn to anticipate the naysayers. Just because they can’t see my vision, doesn’t mean I have to fall into overexplaining myself to try and get them to see things my way or even understand the services I offer to the world. Over time, I’ve learned to look at every naysayer as a blessing that advances me forward. The bigger the battle, the bigger the blessings.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m Lex Smith and I am the Founder and Creator of Spiritual U. Based in Columbus, Ohio, Spiritual U is both my personal brand and the platform for all my grand visions of spiritual and energetic growth, insight and research. I savvy myself in the fields of Spiritual Consulting & Mentorship, Energetic Healing & Education, Intuitive Channeling Techniques, Meditation Guidance, Manifestation Strategy, Astrology, and Quantum Awareness & Frequency Coding. My clients describe me as a colorful counselor. Though my services sound every colorful and outside of the box, I’ve worked tediously to hone in the art of spiritual transformation through 4 proven foundational pillars of my business: Shadow Illumination & Healing, Transmutation of Mental Roadblocks & Unaligned Language, Grace & Light Coding of the Heart, and Divine Manifestation Activation.
On the outside these concepts might sound fringe, however my clients (mostly Millennial and Gen X women) come from every walk of life. I’ve come to find in my 4+ years of creating and growing Spiritual U, a good amount of people are craving outside of the box modalities to heal, find purpose and lean into their authenticity. I work with marketers, creative writers, students, doctors, lawyers, tech analysts, moms, dads, retirees, engineers, healthcare practitioners, terminally ill individuals, military service members, athletes, children, animals, and yes…benevolent spirits, angels, and a countless number of Jungian archetypes, ascended masters, and what I like to call the Light (some may call it God, Source, Creator). And regardless of the many titles my clients carry, I find that almost all of them are looking for 1 of 3 things: love, purpose, or connection to their authentic self.
Each of my clients is near and dear to my heart and I set out to customize every personal consulting or mentoring session, meditation class, course, channeled reading or energy activation specifically to align with clients’ highest timeline of co-creation with universal consciousness. And when it comes to outside-of-the-box healing, you better believe we bring the humor. Whether through oracle cards, astrological birth chart mapping, aura photography, sound healing, or close conversation and connection with spirit guides and ancestors long passed on….I have intentionally embedded playfulness, laughter and joy into the heart of Spiritual U’s brand. After all, what good is healing if we can’t laugh at ourselves along the way?
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Learning the difference between Information and Wisdom. We live in a time where we are blessed to have all the information we could ever imagine at our fingertips. However, I have come to realize in my professional career, that very few have the critical thinking skills or knowledge on how to apply information in useful or meaningful ways. And this applies to everyone! Myself included. From the top leaders to the blue collar and entry level…we are lacking wisdom. I’ve grown to learn (and still learning) the value of wisdom, which can only be obtained through experience, soul connection to something bigger than me or you, and good old fashioned mentorship. Information is great! But it is devoid of any substance without the wisdom on how to apply it.
Next, I would say self reflection. Growth can’t happen without looking within and around you at all times. Self awareness leads to authenticity which leads to the manifestation of vision and creation. Get a meditation, affirmation, or prayer practice. Because I lead a soul-led and spiritual business, I always say figure out the word or language around G-O-D and talk and listen to That Voice daily and in silence. The Light, The Divine, Source, Beloved, Creator, Oneness…whatever the word is to you, reshape your relationship to a Higher Power and you will never be lead astray.
Another skill I’ve really come to grow and learn the importance of is the sacred “Oopsie!” As an entrepreneur, you are going to trip up. Sometimes the trip ups feel like faceplanting on concrete and other times they feel like little moments of forgiving yourself for the minor inconveniences that get a major reaction out of you. Learn the power of the sacred Oopsie and move on!
How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
Laughing as much as possible.
