Meet Lexi St John

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lexi St John a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Lexi, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I think finding purpose is important as a creator, I think that is what allows you to connect to your audience and build a community. I feel like through my journey as a creator my purpose has been the same for the most part, but has changed as I’ve experienced different opportunities.

When I first began sharing content on social media I honestly didn’t think anyone would see it so I posted places and things that made me happy. I used it more of a way to document my vacations and explorations especially after the world opened back up post covid restrictions.

Once I began gaining a following I knew that I didn’t want to stray from posting things that made me happy and excited, that is what made my content feel authentic. If I could show my experiences and emotions I feel like it made people excited to experience them on their own and follow along with me. With my growing following I also began to receive requests from businesses to come visit them and show off what made them unique. This has been so fun for me because I have met so many incredible people. I really love seeing the passion of small business owners. That is when an additional purpose became a priority for me. I wanted to share these businesses and brands with the world so other people could fall in love with them too and maybe find their next favorite restaurant, shop, event, and more.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My name is Lexi St. John and I am the girl behind The Bop Around TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube.

Through social media, I take you to bop around with me to explore different places, events, businesses, and just through my life. A majority of my content is focused on Kansas City and what is happening around the city, but I love branching out and exploring different places as I travel. I am hoping. to broaden my content to include more travel. I also try to sprinkle in bits of who I am and my lifestyle so my audience feels a bit more connected to the person behind the phone.

What I enjoy about having The Bop Around is the really cool opportunities I’ve been given and the amazing people I’ve met. I feel like it has allowed me to grow as a person and make my world a little bit bigger. I can’t wait to see what opportunities and people next year brings. I also hope to do more in-person events with my local followers to strengthen the community.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Creativity – In social media and content creation you’re always looking for ways to keep people’s attention, try new content styles, and make sure your work is unique to you. I think the creativity is the most fun part it is one of the things that keeps me going.

Time management – This is something I’m still very much working on. It is so easy to say yes to all of the opportunities that come your way, but it is important to remember to stay true to yourself. Sometimes you just have to say no to something so that way you can take a break, relax, and care for yourself. Or maybe you have to turn down a couple of opportunities because you want to make sure you aren’t spread too thin and can give your content the proper attention and you are proud of the quality of the work you put out there

Curiosity – Social media platforms are always changing so be willing to keep up, research, and learn. I highly recommend meeting fellow creators and creating relationships with them. I have learned so much from other influencers and their experiences. We also are able to help each other or bounce ideas off of each other.

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
My biggest challenge right now is that I am struggling with the feeling that I can’t do it all. I get so many incredible invites to visit different places, attend events, and share certain pieces of information and I currently just don’t have time to do it all as much as I wish I could.

I work a full-time corporate job so I can only work on my social media on weekends or in the evenings which limits how many things I can take on. I also have to remember to take time for myself so I don’t burn out or forget to care for my basic needs. I hope one day I can have more time to dedicate to my content so I can share even more businesses and events.
