We were lucky to catch up with Lexie Cornish recently and have shared our conversation below.
Lexie , first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
To be totally transparent, I don’t think imposter syndrome ever completely goes away. It’s more about learning to face it with confidence and reminding yourself why you do what you do. I still have moments where imposter syndrome creeps in, but I’ve learned to push back by reflecting on times I succeeded and knew I was doing something right. There will always be more to learn and room to grow, but it’s important to stay confident in your skill set, celebrate your successes, and stay open to new ideas and continued growth.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I work for an applied behavior analysis company called Infinite Therapy Services. Our mission is to provide ethical, evidence-based, and trauma-informed ABA services to individuals with special needs, primarily those on the autism spectrum. Our goal is to help give these individuals a voice and the skills they need to live as independently as possible.
My brother is on the spectrum, and he’s the reason I fell in love with this field. Watching his journey inspired me to want to help others find their voice, too. This work is incredibly rewarding. Every small victory, every moment of progress, reminds me why I do what I do. There’s nothing quite like seeing someone gain the confidence and skills to advocate for themselves and step into their own independence. It’s truly an honor to be part of that growth every day.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three things that have been most impactful to my journey are the willingness to take constructive feedback as an opportunity for growth rather than taking it personally, keeping an open mind to new ways of doing things, and being a strong team player. Each of these skills has shaped me into the practitioner I am today.
Learning to embrace feedback has helped me grow both personally and professionally, and being open-minded allows me to continually learn from others’ perspectives. Teamwork, above all, reminds me that success in this field does not happen alone. It is built through collaboration, support, and shared goals. Together, those values keep me grounded, motivated, and always striving to be better for the individuals and families I serve.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
My parents have done so many impactful things for me, but some of the most important were teaching me resilience, work ethic, and how to lead with a compassionate and caring heart. One of the first lessons I remember learning as a kid was the importance of caring for others, even when they might not do the same for you. That does not mean allowing others to treat you poorly, but rather understanding that everyone is going through something and choosing to remain kind and compassionate, even when it is hard to do so.
This lesson has truly shaped the person I am today. It taught me empathy, patience, and the value of showing grace. I am far from perfect at it, but I try to remind myself of this lesson often. It keeps me grounded and reminds me of the kind of person I want to be.
