Lexus , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

Resilience in photography for me comes from a deep passion for the craft. I thrive on continuously learning and improving, and each setback is just another opportunity to grow. Constructive feedback from peers helps me refine my skills, and I find inspiration and motivation in the photography community. Ultimately, persistence is key—every photo I take, whether successful or not, is a step towards mastering the art.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m a self-taught photographer who discovered the thrill of capturing moments as a teenager. My journey began with a desire to create high-quality photos that I could cherish for a lifetime. The most exciting part of my work is freezing a moment in time and seeing the joy on others’ faces when they view my photos.

I have a deep love for R&B, neo-soul, and old-school jazz, and I often incorporate these musical elements into short visual projects. This blend of music and imagery is my favorite creative outlet, as it allows me to express emotions and stories in a unique way.

Currently, I’m seeking opportunities to become someone’s travel photographer. I am passionate about exploring new places and capturing the beauty and essence of different cultures through my lens. If you’re looking for a dedicated and artistic photographer to document your travels, I’d love to be a part of your journey.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, I’ve found that three key qualities have played a significant role in my journey as a photographer. Firstly, the unwavering combination of passion and persistence has been crucial. Fueled by a deep love for photography, I’ve constantly sought to learn and improve, while persistence has been instrumental in overcoming challenges and setbacks. For those embarking on their own journey, I encourage immersing yourself in your craft and staying committed, even when progress seems slow. Secondly, the development of a unique creative vision has been essential. Seeing the world through a different lens and capturing that perspective sets your work apart. I suggest aspiring photographers to study various art forms, explore different styles, and take risks without fear. Lastly, mastering technical skills has been fundamental for me. Understanding lighting, composition, and post-processing techniques has allowed me to bring my creative ideas to life. I recommend investing time in learning these fundamentals through online resources, workshops, and practice. Overall, it’s important to stay passionate, be persistent, and continually refine your technical and creative skills. Embrace learning opportunities and view challenges as chances to grow.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

To be honest, the most impactful thing my parents did for me in Chicago terms was “Gas me up”. They showed my work to everyone in the room. They always mention me as the best of the best when the words camera picture or video were mumbled in a room also while being able to give constructive criticism that I can be better than the day before and the roof is topless there is no such thing as perfect in this growing changing world
