We were lucky to catch up with Leyla Elkhishin recently and have shared our conversation below.
Leyla , so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
As a kid, I always felt so insecure whether it was by certain family members critiquing things, or years of bullying I endured at school. It wasn’t until I hit late 16, and broke up with my ex at the time that really helped me to start realising my worth. I realised if I continued to believe things others were saying about me to put me down, it would just continue to bring me down, especially since the things being said weren’t even true. I came to the discovery that confidence and self esteem isn’t based on your physical appearance, it’s also how you present yourself, the love you give to yourself and your life, and your intention that shows the real true beauty and confidence. Once I started align with the version of me that wasn’t negative, that had purpose, and wasn’t living in scarcity and fear, that’s when I finally was able to start feeling my confidence because I realised the successful young woman I truly am.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My job and what I do is honestly one of my favourite parts about my life. I get to work with brands for their marketing campaigns, and I get paid to make videos for products that pay me better than a weeks worth of work most the time every collaboration I land. Ugc is one of the most highly rated form of marketing going by statistics, as it helps viewers to resonate with the content when they see real people using it, instead of generic, scripted ads. As a social media manager as well, I get to manage the social pages of my clients which at the moment I’m working with restaurants and venues however down the line I plan on making my job more travel specific. I sell digital products including e books, planners, templates to my audience who’s interested in getting started on ugc and creating their dream reality!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The most important qualities to adapt is definitely thick skin and this would have to be the most important. You cannot allow the opinions, negativity and judgment of others who aren’t even happy about themselves, to affect your choices or beliefs about yourself. You know yourself and your truth, and that’s the most important thing. The second thing is that I wish I knew when someone is constantly negative, hateful, and judgemental, it’s not because of you, it’s because of a constant battle going on in their head that they have not yet figured out. These types of people whether it be family or friends, are people you can love from afar as they will not truly help shift your mindset to where you want to get to in life. The last thing I stand on so deeply is everything happens for a reason. Trauma, pain, smile, shame, everything is happening for a bigger reason. You have to look at things through a different perspective and understand that life will only throw things at you to either show you what repeating pattern you need to change, or what lesson is to be learnt. Once you look at it through that perspective, it will be a lot easier to deal with life’s roller coaster of emotions.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
My biggest area of growth in the past 12 months has definitely been my mindset and perspective on life, I’ve been able to grow a scalable business online, I’ve met the most amazing group of friends and people, I’ve overcame things I thought I never would, and I love doing what I do. People are always congratulating me on how far I’ve come, or how good I’m doing now, however no one knows the things I’ve endured to help me reach the point I’m at. No matter how big or small the accomplishment, I will forever be proud of myself and hold my head high knowing that I’m doing it for the little girl that once thought the whole world was against her. In the past 12 months, I’ve been able to recognise what I want for myself in a man, for my future life, for my current lifestyle, and I’ve fully provided everything to myself. I’m so grateful for the continuous steps I take to improve my life and make myself the best version of me.
