Meet Leyva Angelina And Ashley Leyva

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Leyva Angelina And Ashley Leyva. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

LEYVA, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

We have been playing music since the age of 4. As kids, we tried everything from sports, to art, and dance. At 4 we started playing piano and fell in love with it. We excelled from a very early age and picked up singing, guitar, bass, trombone, and any instrument we could. Music had been our passion ever since. We started performing super young and fell in love with playing music for an audience. We knew it was our purpose ever since we started.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

LEYVA, composed of twin sisters Ash and Ang are 19 year old musical prodigies with a deep passion for music and self-expression. With sensibilities beyond their years, they bring together their multi-instrumentalism with velvety vocals and soulful lyrics for a modernized take on musical icons from the 1960s and ‘70s. Currently attending Berklee College of Music, LEYVA are currently performing across the East Coast, and sharing their journey and debut releases with the world. LEYVA is currently working on getting their music released together and have many projects in the works. Their music together will release shortly this year!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

We believe that having a love for what you do and self confidence has been our strongest asset when it comes to writing music. We believe so strongly in our work and creativity that we are able to write freely and with an open heart, and mind. Having a love for what you do makes you so passionate about it that giving up is never an option! When we began writing it wasn’t easy. Songs didn’t just come out and it took a lot of time and practice to write music we were super proud of. A piece of advice we would give to anyone is to never give up even when it seems hard or impossible. Like anything else, it takes hard work, practice, and the drive to do so. Once you get that drive and motivation, nothing can stand in the way of you and your dreams.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?

Being a twin and working together has been an incredibly uplifting experience. We are both so passionate in the songs we create together, that co writing has helped us so much in our music. Being able to learn from each other’s writing and musicality by working together is something so special. It has taught us more about music and life than anything else. Our mother has also been the most supporting person in our lives since we were little. She knew music was our gift from a young age and did everything she could to help us fulfill that dream. She has never missed a show even if she has to come drive up to school to see it. Without her, our careers now wouldn’t have been possible. Having a support system in each other and our family has been so amazing and something we will be grateful for forever.
