Meet Libby Bartley

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Libby Bartley. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Libby below.

Libby, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
Optimism for me is deeply tied to a sense of will. I’ve long held a clear vision of what I want in my life, and in moments where things seem to falter or fail, the fortitude to find a way to keep going is driven by the desire to accomplish the dreams that have guided everything I’ve done thus far in my life and career.

I’ve also come to realize that optimism is essential solely because the alternative doesn’t serve as a solution. Allowing yourself to be consumed by negativity ultimately is a distraction from the end goal you’re working towards. Over and over again, optimism proves to be the path that leads me forward.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Whether it’s my 9-5 or the creative endeavors I’m pursuing in my free time, everything I do is inspired by a passion for telling stories that bring people together.

By day, I work as a copywriter, where I devise nuanced tone of voice strategies and craft verbal experiences for beauty brands. While my career has presented me with opportunities to collaborate with several household brands under the CPG umbrella, I’ve always derived a differentiated sense of fulfillment from working in the beauty space. Beyond selling products, beauty is such a conduit for empowering consumers to feel their best, and knowing our work has the ability to make an impact to that caliber is where I find my creative adrenaline.

When I’m not on the clock, I channel my love for storytelling in other capacities, be it short stories, poetry, and occasional content creation. Similar to my day job, I find great fulfillment in sharing my thoughts and ideas in the hopes that it will allow other women feel seen and heard—and more empowered to let their most authentic self run free.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Regardless of the journey you’re on in life, I find presence, patience, and perseverance are common denominators in stories of success. It’s often imperative to remain open-minded to the vast range of ideas, observations, and learning opportunities that present themselves to you. And to consciously couple that with the practice of both patience and perseverance is, from my vantage point, what sets apart the people who go far and the people who fall short. Sustainable success never happens overnight, so the ability to stay the course, trust the process, and maintain a willingness to pivot are key.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
Anytime I feel stuck or my creative energy feels stagnant, distance always seems to serve me well. Getting outside, taking a walk, reading a magazine, picking up a fresh-brewed latte, meditating, or even calling a friend are all habits that I’ve found can dilute the point of tension and help me to realign with a clear frame of mind. The more I give myself permission to create some space, the more successful I am in gaining a new perspective and finding a surefire solution.
