We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lida Djarar Fischer a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

My optimism is rooted in my understanding of life’s inherent duality. I believe that life is a combination of both highs and lows. While I appreciate and embrace the moments of positivity and joy, I’m also aware that life can be challenging and difficult at times. I believe in being honest about this reality rather than pretending that every day is fantastic.
Optimism, for me, is not about being perpetually upbeat but about having the resilience and perspective to navigate both the good and the bad. I’ve learned that both aspects of life are essential for personal growth and development. It’s during the tough times that we often learn the most valuable lessons and find opportunities for growth. So, my optimism is grounded in the belief that, by embracing both the ups and downs, we can lead a more fulfilling and meaningful life.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
For those who are early in their entrepreneurial journey, my advice is this:
Be prepared to embrace discomfort and challenges. They are part of the process and can lead to growth and innovation.
Practice patience and manage your expectations. Success takes time, and setbacks are part of the journey. Enjoy the process and celebrate small wins along the way.
Focus on yourself and your vision. Don’t let external pressures or comparisons derail your journey. Your unique perspective and determination are your greatest assets.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was to bring our family from Iran to Switzerland as refugees. This decision had a profound and positive effect on my life, allowing me to grow up in a different culture, learn different languages, and attend some of the best schools in the world.
Looking back, I now realize how incredibly challenging it must have been for my parents to make the journey and face numerous obstacles to provide a better life for their children. Their sacrifice and determination to ensure we had the best possible opportunities have left a lasting impression on me.
I am forever grateful to my parents for their courage and their unwavering commitment to giving us a good life. Their actions have shaped who I am today and continue to inspire me to strive for the best in all aspects of my life.
