Meet Lila R

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lila R. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Lila, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.

I keep my creativity alive by always experimenting with different mediums to get my idea across to each individual and allowing myself full creative freedom to bounce around to different pieces and take my time completing them until I feel like they’re complete. I also create mindless fun art like coloring, taking pieces of things I want to remember forever, and I take art classes as well to give myself a break.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I am a visual mixed media artist; I do a lot of photography, pyrography, woodworking, acrylic paint, watercolor, and graphic design. I enjoy creating and being an all-around creative person! As a fresh face in the art world, I am finding my creative voice again. I love color, but I can appreciate the natural grain of the wood and the fun that vibrating colors can bring to a piece. I prefer to avoid boxing myself in with one media type, so I dip and dabble a bit in it all, which you can see in my work. Some of my inspirations are the natural beauty of the world, my vivid imagination, and music!
There’s something powerful about starting with nothing and creating a fantastic piece of art that tells a story that can be interpreted differently. I want to inspire many artists to keep creating and sharing their art with the world, just as I am! I go live every other Monday on my YouTube channel, The Kraft Dealer, painting, drawing, and sometimes answering questions so my audience can get to know me more!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, I would have to say the drive to keep going even when it is just one person rooting for you, to keep putting yourself out there so more people can discover you, and raise your hand for an opportunity even if you have no clue what you are doing because you’ll figure it out as you go! The advice I can give artists and/or creatives early in their journey is to be a sponge, take in as much knowledge and information as possible, and explore different mediums and styles as you can because you never know what you’ll like! I can’t say this enough, but practice, practice, practice, and challenge yourself. You never know what you are capable of until you challenge yourself to do that thing you keep talking yourself out of.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?

My most significant area of growth in the last year, I would say, has been finding my artistic voice and direction. When I started my business for a while, I was creating things I thought people would like and would buy from me at events. I always thought, “How can I make this a product?” that was very draining. After a while, I felt like I had lost myself and my style to what was trendy and what I thought people wanted to see. Last June, I decided to take a break from it all, listen to my inner self, and slow down. I asked myself: ” If today was my last day, what did I want to leave behind in the world?” and I ran with that; whatever I want to accomplish, I’m doing that if I don’t know how to get there, I’m going to figure it out to reach my goals and dreams! Since then, I’ve just hit the ground running, and haven’t stopped. So far, I’ve completed over 20 pieces of visual mixed media original art. I’ve been working on connecting more with my audience by going live every other Wednesday on YouTube, and I make mini vlogs on my YouTube channel. If you’re not subscribed, you definitely should be. Also, I have a Patreon for early access and exclusive content!
