We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful LILIANA LUGO. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with LILIANA below.
Hi LILIANA, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
It’s not always easy to be 100 percent confident, particularly if you’re naturally self-critical like myself. Thankfully, I have learned to prepare for any upcoming challenge. I focus on the positives, I always look forward to that feeling of accomplishment, the compliments that come with success. That’s my adrenaline, what keeps me confident and with great self-esteem. But most importantly I’m kind to myself. I understand that developing confidence is an on-going process. Meaning, it doesn’t happen overnight. Patience is always key.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m a photographer, I started with tons of insecurities and “what if’s”, self-promotion doesn’t come naturally to me and frankly, It felt awkward in the beginning. But here I am! Four years later, On my highest level of self confidence, I’m out of my comfort zone and ready to tell everyone’s special stories through a lens. I specialize in lifestyle photography. Indoor sessions are available, but the beautiful outdoor scenery is my favorite place to shoot. Love my clients, some even become close friends, I enjoy bringing out the best in a person and putting those gorgeous smiles to a freeze, I’m also constantly aiming for my work to be uniquely beautiful without trying too hard.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I’m gonna go with Confidence, Time management, and communication. Look, I’d say that when I started to pursue photography, I didn’t know exactly where the journey would take me, Or if I would actually make it happen. I had tons of ideas but lack of confidence, sooner or later you gotta shake that off and really throw yourself out there! Like literally, block all fear and go for it, As a photographer, it’s essential that I continue learning regularly. I still often attend workshops and second shoot events to perfect my skills and knowledge, you’ll never stop learning in this business. There’s always new projects, themes, camera upgrades etc… There’s so much to do and so many ways to present your art and make your dream come to life! Love your style, be your biggest fan and never compare your work to others. Believe in yourself. Put in the work, and never ever give up! That’s my honest advice.
What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
The number one challenge that I’m facing at this moment is “Time” yes! managing time, Running a business and being a mom is not as easy as it seems. Some ladies do it without problem and my respects go out to them! But, me on the other hand, It’s a day to day mini struggle that I’m working on. I put my mouse down, turn my computer off and transition to mom mode. I don’t know how many times a day. Lol! With a Kindergartner and another getting ready for college. I have my hands full, the job of being both mom/photographer leaves little room for anything else. It’s all a Work-Life Balance though and I’m slowly learning to master it. It’s all a matter of being patient and becoming more organized.
