We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Liliana Riva Palacio. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with liliana below.
Liliana, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
In my Life story resiliency came from all the painfull path that I had to live as a Child, I was born in a very rich mexican family without my parents support and care, since I was a girlI I had experimented from Child sexual abuse and couple of very serious accidents. Those events marked me. I grew up with a very strong net of friends that helped to overcome my sadness and wounded heart, I learnt the importance of Human connection and bonding, even thoug I Felt broken my relations brought a sense of belonging and allow me to survive and flourish. 45 years ago I developed a sense of comunnity and hope, at that time i didn’t know that all the lessons I had to live where so important for my mission. Singing my song through courage for being resilient without knowing that concept, I began my humanitarian work in children’s hospitals with chronic illnes, walking a path of such much suffering gave me a sense os strenght and compasión towards others pain. I have helped thousands of beings through overcoming my own wounds and as a piece of carbon transform my Life into a shinning dimond that shows a path of inner force and resilience into the service for a Humananitarian experience and well being. Laughter, movement, and art also became pilars for growing, sharing a social resilincy respond.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My nonprofit is Proyecto Concentrarte a 20 year old initiave working through Mexico and some International experiences . We have worked over 150 locations along the country, giving more 1800 Workshops, benefiting more than 1,211,655 people in three main programs: Peace and Resilience, environmental Education, and Food Sovereignty.
We are a multidisciplinary team that works through an art based program to support vulnerable comunnities in Mexico, our expertise is working with indigenous people, we acknolegdge their ancestral wisdom and our visón is centered in nature based solutions. We connect to people, to their needs and empower women. We have developed a model that it is innovative and it has been very succesfull, we have used our authenticity and human bonding as a rock for coresponsability and social resiliency. We sing, dance, plant, cocreate and dream together for a better present and aprosperous future. We have the most important awards in Mexico and we have been recognized bu the UNDP as one of the 1500 Impact projects in their data base.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
interconectedness=team building IF we observe nature we will see that everything is connected and is part of a bigger System. We as humans tend to separate and divide instead of unite and connect. When we work as a team with a specific direction percibing us as a System that functions and works together, the results will be greater, stronger and the effects and the Impact of our efforts will expand, recognizing talent and collaborate through respect for each individual with a Collective visión.
Generosity and gratitude: From my experience the more you give the more you receive, generosity is so importante for our well being to open our narrow ego horizons and broadens our fullfilment. Gratitude and generosity are spiritual values that will make you feel better, being grateful for what we have, for the lessons that Life show us will take us to a better place than complaining for what we do not have. Example: being grateful for our heart that functions every day, being grateful for the Sun that shines, the water we drink… etc
Art based program: Art language is spoken through the senses, to make us feel, to connect from our hearts and habitate the real of the soul, Working in children’s hospitals shown me the importance of music or painting as a Way to heal, giving us the posibilita to connect to the bliss of feel. To use our senses to experiment our feelings.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
Friendship has been one of my most important support to overcome challenges, my friends are a source of inspiration, love, honesty, confronting, I am sourrnded by amazaing humans creative, Beautiful souls that have Made my path easier, I can be honest with them showing my brighter and darkest sides. Supporting in the most difficult times, showing me a wide horizon where I though it was the end. Encourage my Journey with their kind spirits ans sense of humor.
I am so blessed to have a such incredíble net, Life is more Beautiful when we have people to share it, when things get hard and you feel a caring Bond to cry and breathe there is always hope. we need hope to flourish and to expand for the wellbeing of our shared humanity. My Wish for all of us is to nurture and cultivate amazing Human connections in reciprocity and mutual caring.
