Meet Lilly Ensminger

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lilly Ensminger. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Lilly , thanks for taking the time to share your lessons with our community today. So, let’s jump right in – one of the most essential skills for unlocking our potential is self-discipline. Where does your self-discipline come from?

My self-discipline started from a very young age. I got a job at 15 and started working out around then as well. I had to develop very good time management skills at this point if I was going to be able to get everything that I wanted to get done. Working out and staying on top of my finances have always been something I have taken very seriously. I am aware of my goals and that is what drives me to keep going. If you don’t think you have the time, you have to make the time. I’ve learned how beneficial it is to wake up early and get everything done before you start your day so you aren’t stressing about it later and then you have time to relax. All these skills I taught myself at a young age prepared me to be where I am now. I currently, post consistently on Instagram to keep up with my growing account, work 40 hours a week as a nanny, work 15-20 hours a week at a restaurant serving and I am a full-time student. This is all a lot to keep up with but im determined to stay focused on my goals.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

Currently, I am working hard to save money so I can get my apartment. This is why I have been working so much however making money and working has always been something I’ve been determined to do. My fitness journey started because I was struggling with anorexia and the solution was to fix my relationship with food if I wanted to continue to grow in the gym. This has been a very long journey and it hasn’t been easy. These issues are still something I deal with 4 years later however, I have grown so much since then. Learning who you are and why you do what you do is a very important part of everyone’s journey and it has completely changed my life.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Goal setting has been very helpful for me. Knowing why you are doing what you are doing every day is a very good way to drive your actions. Giving yourself grace is another thing that has helped me. Consistency isn’t about showing up 100% every single day it’s about putting in the effort. in as much as you can even if its only 10%. Showing up for yourself and building trust within yourself is very important. If you say you are going to do something, do it. Get the little things done, take that rest day, do whatever you need to do for yourself.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

The podcast Aware and Aggravated by Leo Skepi has been very influential to my personal growth. This podcast has taught me a lot about self-worth and resilience. This podcast also has taught me how to love myself and what that really means. Learning from this podcast has completely changed my life. In addition, my support system has never let me down and has never been something I have doubled. My parents have always supported every decision I make good and bad because they know you have to make mistakes and learn. My girlfriend has also been very supportive by holding me accountable and getting me to the gym on the days I don’t have the motivation. She also keeps me accountable for my meals and how consistently I’m eating. This has been a huge help and I couldn’t be more grateful to have her along for my journey.
