We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lily Jousson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lily below.
Lily, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
Someone once said to me that creativity is like a plant, and that really strikes a chord with me. Constantly nurturing, watering, tending, and trimming the plant is as essential as the creative process itself.
Take yourself out to see plays, to frolic in museums, to have fun in nature.
Try something new: by consciously going out of your comfort zone, it will tickle your brain in many ways, and that’s where the magic starts.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a freelance illustrator who loves to explore themes centered around nature, travel, mental health awareness and all things peacefully cozy.
My inspiration comes from my adventures, landscapes, and whimsical stories.
I mainly work digitally as it is a flexible medium, although traditional techniques such as pen markers, watercolors, gouache, and pencils have a special place in my heart.
As well as working with clients on rich and textured illustrations, I create cute and original gifts and sell them in my online store. Since its opening in 2018, my work has been sold in more than 20 countries around the world.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Self-care, practice (loads of it) and being surrounded by people that encourage you are crucial fundamentals to any freelancing journey. They are interconnected and interchangeable parts to have the necessary stamina to pursue your passion projects.
We can develop these by making sure all our basics needs are met (sleep, relax, have fun!), by trying new things around new people and, no secret there, by practicing, practicing, practicing.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I would love to collaborate with brands who are interested in developing projects around nature, travel, or mental health. Clients who would like to bring a little bit of softness to this ever so challenging world.
