We were lucky to catch up with Lindai Loutun recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Lindai, thank you for joining us today and sharing your experiences and acquired wisdom with us. Burnout is a huge topic these days and so we’d love to kick things off by discussing your thoughts on overcoming or avoiding burnout
A really good self care routine and learning how to delegate would be the short answer.
As a business owner, I wear many hats and need to constantly prioritize and adjust as the day progresses.
Starting my day with an exercise routine and meditation is really important to me. It helps me determine my energy level and sets the tone for the day. Once I leave the house it gets hectic and usually non-stop until I get home. I often have to do some admin work when I get home before I can wind down, make dinner and relax before bedtime. I try to get 7 hours of sleep.
My morning workout consists of a routine called The 5 Tibetan Rites, which I have been practicing for over 25 years. When time permits I add some strength and resistance training as well as additional stretching and a little meditation. I drink a high quality nutritional supplement first thing in the morning to support my cells and organs to optimally function so I can physically be at my best.
But what I really needed was to ease my workload so I can get to all items on my list and also be able to work on the business instead of just in it. I needed a good support system meaning physical help as well as putting systems in place so the business runs more efficiently. It took me a while to find reliable people to work with but once I did, it freed up time to streamline parts of the business that took too much of my time. I was also able to put automations in place and focus on more creative aspects to grow the business. I feel less stressed and burnt out since then. It was also a matter of finding people who I can trust and being ok with not having control over the entire process. I realized having additional mental capacity brought back more joy to my work. I am able to be fully present with my clients and employees and feel motivated to grow the business.
Looking back, I can say that as I personally grow, the business grows and that’s a beautiful thing. As I continue to work on my personal qualities and spiritual development, I see a direct reflection in my business.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Lindai’s Bodywork is a sanctuary for healing and holistic health that came alive with the purpose of providing a holistic approach with high quality services, specifically Traditional Thai Massage, Reiki, 13th Octave LaHoChi and the Raindrop Technique. We also offer more common modalities like deep tissue, Swedish and sports massages .
Another big part is to educate and share these healing modalities, so people have the tools for their own self-care and don’t have to rely on a practitioner. The vision is to empower people to take care of themselves.
We encourage and support fellow entrepreneurs who align with our values and are on a similar mission to help people heal themselves and make this world a better place.
We offer community events, new moon and solstice gatherings, meditations, sound baths and movement practices.
We constantly seek to improve and expand our offerings to meet customer needs and provide customized experiences.
Our newest offerings are facials and infrared sauna, which can be combined with other services.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
– If you work in a field of service, customer management and service mentality are really important skills to hone. Especially, if you work in health, you want to be a person who truly cares for their clients health and wellbeing and listens to their concerns. People want to be heard, understood and cared for. People will notice consciously or subconsciously if you actually care about them. Make it a point to show them with your actions. When a client tells you, sometimes years later, what a difference you made in their life by helping them, that’s the best compliment you can get. That is when you know you had a positive long lasting impact on them and their life.
– Resilience: I’ve had many ups and downs in my business and it took a while to build it to a point where it sustained me and eventually became profitable. There were times when I wanted to give up, but instead I got up again and again. I realized there will always be challenges and giving up is not an option for me if I want to be truly successful and grow the business. I learned from mistakes and adjusted myself and the way I was running my business, tried different types of marketing strategies and advertised my services and products in a variety of settings. It takes time to find your niche and also the right price points. I was shy to charge for what my services were worth and undersold my time for the skill level I offered. A lot of my business was trial and error. I didn’t have anyone to coach me how to run this type of business. Plus, it was the first time I started a business in a new country, which meant I also had to learn and navigate the legal aspects. At the time I started my company, I only had one friend who had their own business and was fairly new, building and learning herself in her industry. Nowadays, many of my friends, colleagues, and associates are business owners and we support each other, exchange knowledge, share resources, collaborate on projects and refer each other’s services. Advertising and marketing is much easier these days as well with social media and Google at the forefront. Challenges to becoming and staying successful in your respective industry have shifted for entrepreneurs and small businesses. What remained same is that you have to be resilient and tenacious. When you are new to your industry and/or new to running your own business, find a coach and surround yourself with people who are already doing what you are trying to do. Learn from their mistakes so you don’t have to make them yourself. You will benefit from the experience they have.
– Last but not least: Always be kind and grateful. Remember you always meet twice in life, and you never know what someone is going through. Some people will genuinely help you, some will try to use you. Be grateful for every experience and the lessons it brings. Don’t hold on to any grudges and move on. Keep your goals in mind and focus on moving towards them.

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
Someone who enjoys a truly therapeutic massage and a holistic approach to health and healing. Somebody who is aware that self care is essential and that massages and energy healing is a necessity, not a treat or luxury. Someone who regards self care as part of the inner work we do to better ourselves. Someone who values their physical, mental and emotional health and wellbeing. Someone who is looking for a personalized treatment that will be tailored to their needs.
