We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lindsay Corbett a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Lindsay , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
What a great question! I believe that every person on the planet has a unique purpose and divine plan for their life. I am not ashamed to say that I am an outspoken Christian and I believe that God desires for us to walk in His will. If we form a relationship with God He will lead, guide, and direct us into the path He designed specifically for us. God’s word gives us hope and encouragement that we can cling to such as, Jeremiah 29:11-“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Psalm 33:11-“The plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of His heart through all generations.”
Proverbs 3:5-6-Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
These are just a few of the verses that have helped me stay on track.
I do not claim to have life all figured out. In fact, I am still on a journey to find my true calling and purpose in life. I believe that along the way I’ve been able to get little glimpses of assurance that God brought me that point. I know that His mercy and grace have brought me this far and that I haven’t earned anything on my own. I find a lot of peace knowing that my story can help someone else walking through something I have walked through and come out on the other side. I believe each of us has a story that needs to be told. Everyone has a sphere of influence. The world we live in can seem so dark at times with violence and hate, evil agendas, and the constant striving to obtain success in the world’s eyes such as by fame and earning fortunes. However, I believe that we are called to be the light and hope the world needs by modeling the love that Jesus Christ showed us by living a selfless life and dying on the cross for our sins so that we could receive the gift of salvation and eternal life. It doesn’t end there though, He desires for us to live a victorious life on this earth through the power of the Holy Spirit. A victorious life doesn’t mean we won’t walk through dark times but it means that we won’t give up and we will make it through. I have a story that someone needs to hear and so do you. Oftentimes our circumstances cause pain or suffering. I have learned that pain looks different for different people. Pain is subjective in interpretation to the individual experiencing it. For me finding my purpose in the pain was hard at first but once I could finally trust that God was with me, I was able to walk through that pain. My darkness included infertility, loss, a medical diagnosis that I didn’t want to encounter that challenges most every part of my family’s life. My mental, emotional, and spiritual health has also been challenged in that darkness.
Finding my purpose really began when I quit my full-time job as a nurse practice manager with UNC physicians’ network in April of 2020 to become a stay-at-home mom. I am mother to two beautiful children ages 8 and 6. When I came home, I felt a strong calling to write and share my story. The majority of my story was highlighting my journey to becoming a mother. My story is an emotional rollercoaster consisting of loss, grief, shock, and even despair at times. As I wrote my story, I felt freedom almost instantly. I signed a contract in October of 2020 with a publishing company called Trilogy Christian Publishing (a subsidiary of Trinity Broadcasting Network- TBN). I published my first book; Gospel Glitter: learning to shine in the darkness on April 7th, 2021. When I made the choice to walk away from an amazing career to begin a journey as a stay-at-home mom, I had no idea I would become a published author so quickly. I believe God gave me an opportunity to share my story with the world because if it had not been for God’s word or my faith through Him, I wouldn’t be here today. Life can be overwhelmingly hard at times. I believe my story can help give others hope and encouragement to keep going. Since my book was published, I have been able to speak to many different audiences and share this light with the world. My book is available on most online platforms such as Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Walmart, Target, Christianbookstore.com, and more.
My story in itself was absolutely a struggle but the process of publishing that story has been nothing short of a divine appointment. I submitted an application of interest with a publishing company and only days later did they request more information and an official manuscript. I had to find time to write while taking care of my two children, one of which has special needs. I wouldn’t say it hasn’t been a lot of hard work and time management but it has been a joy to walk in this calling that God designed for me before I was even born. I love getting to share my story with anyone but especially with women who have experienced infertility, loss, and parents of special needs children.
I love writing and being an inspirational speaker. I love taking my book as an icebreaker and allowing it to open doors of opportunity to share the Gospel with anyone. I have spoken at women’s events, churches, schools, and even local television programs. I have other books in the process. I love to inspire creativity in others as I share my story. I encourage others to share their stories as well. We all have a story and we are not alone in our suffering or pain. We just have to be willing to share it.
You see, everyone’s purpose looks a little different because we are all different but we all have the same creator and source of hope. Finding purpose is secondary to finding Christ. You don’t have to look too hard just open a Bible and read the light and truth of the Gospel so you too can find light in your darkness.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a Registered Nurse, published author, and inspirational speaker but my day to day life consist of being a stay at home most days. Homework, packing lunches, and being a part of my community are all in the season of life I am in. All the ministry opportunities I get are overflow of God’s favor and grace. In the future I see more books published and even a few children’s books. I also see many more opportunities to speak publicly and give inspiration and encouragement to many different audiences. I desire to have a nonprofit organization/ministry that can fund many different missions. I would love to give proceeds to benefit the rescue of human trafficked victims, funds for the special needs population, and funds to give women the ability to choose life even in unwanted pregnancies. I have a dream to see women delivered from emotional bondage and healed physically and emotionally. I know that God healed me so I know He can do it for others as well.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Having a humble teachable mentality and realizing I don’t have all the answers. For me it was reading the Bible and seeking answers there. 2. Having a community of people that encourage and challenge you. People that will speak life into your situation because they see potential in you. Also allowing those people to tell you the truth. If they are telling it in love you can receive it or you can understand that their heart is coming from the right place even if you don’t agree with them. I guess a better word for that may be a mentor. Mentors provide encouragement love and wisdom.
3. Drowning out the noise by not comparing your journey or story to someone else’s. Embracing your individuality and differences. Even taking a break from social media has been necessary at times in order to get past that comparison.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
I’ve probably already answered this question but for me the Bible has been the best tool for me. Find a translation that speaks to you. Download the Bible app. Whatever learning style you have there is a translation for you. Even an audible Bible. I’ve done it all and they all help drown out the noise of this world and help us receive revelation from God through the living word.
