We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lindsay Cunningham. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lindsay below.
Lindsay, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
In the hustle and bustle of a high-stress corporate job, I found myself caught in the whirlwind of deadlines and demands, my days blending into a blur of monotony. But amidst the chaos, a silent longing tugged at my heartstrings—a desire for something more, something fulfilling beyond the confines of my office walls.
It was when I made the decision to leave that environment to raise my children that I felt a sense of liberation. Becoming a stay-at-home mom (SAHM) allowed me to be present for my family in ways I hadn’t been able to before. Yet, despite the joy of motherhood, I couldn’t shake the feeling of being unstimulated and unfulfilled.
It was during this pivotal time that a whisper, soft yet insistent, began to echo within me—a calling from a higher power. God had placed upon my heart the idea of fostering, a notion that both excited and terrified me. For years, I wrestled with this calling, questioning my abilities and doubting whether I was truly equipped to take on such a responsibility.
Then, in the midst of the tumultuous year of 2020, I found the courage to say yes. Our family opened our hearts and our home to children in need through an emergency and short-term volunteer fostering program. Little did I know, this decision would mark the beginning of a transformative journey—one that would lead me to discover my true purpose.
As we welcomed these precious souls into our lives, I felt a newfound sense of purpose and fulfillment blossoming within me. It was during this time that another passion began to take root—a love for photography. With each click of the shutter, I found solace and joy, capturing fleeting moments of beauty and love.
What started as a spark soon grew into a blazing fire of passion. With God’s guiding hand, I embraced my newfound calling wholeheartedly, channeling my creativity into building a successful family, maternity, and newborn photography business over the past three years.
But perhaps the greatest blessing of all came in the form of a little boy who stole our hearts. Taking guardianship of him filled our home with love and laughter, cementing our commitment to making a difference in the lives of children in need.
Through the twists and turns of life’s journey, I’ve learned that true purpose isn’t found in the pursuit of worldly success or material wealth. It’s discovered in the moments of selflessness, in the act of answering the call to serve others with love and compassion. And for me, that’s where I’ve found my greatest fulfillment—embracing God’s plan for my life and walking boldly in the path He has set before me.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
In the world of photography, there’s one aspect that resonates with me deeply—the opportunity to come alongside women on their journey into motherhood and share in their joy. There’s something truly magical about capturing the raw, unfiltered beauty of pregnancy and the radiant strength that shines through expectant mothers. I thrive on empowering women, showing them just how beautiful and powerful they truly are. But it’s not just about individuals; it’s about families and the genuine connections that bind them together. Capturing those authentic moments of love and laughter fills me with an unparalleled sense of fulfillment.
And then there’s the Tilly Project, a cause close to my heart. Through donation-based end-of-life pet photography, I’ve discovered a meaningful way to give back, honoring the precious bond between pets and their families during their final moments together. It’s these moments of connection, empowerment, and compassion that fuel my passion for photography and remind me of the profound impact we can have on each other’s lives through the lens of a camera.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
In my photography business, my strengths are empathy, creativity, and top-notch customer service. Being able to really connect with my clients, understand their vibes, and capture their authentic moments is what makes my heart sing. I’ve got this knack for seeing things in a totally unique way, which helps me turn ordinary scenes into unforgettable memories. And when it comes to taking care of my clients, I’m all about going above and beyond to make sure they feel heard, supported, and totally blown away by their experience.
My advice for new photographers is to really make the customer experience top notch. Make people feel special. Answer emails right away and go above and beyond. People will remember that and will be so excited to recommend you to their friends and family!
What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
The biggest challenge I face right now is finding the balance between work and family life. With three lively children and a bustling schedule of their activities, it can be tough to carve out quality time together while still keeping up with the demands of my business. That’s why I’ve begun outsourcing certain tasks, like editing and administrative duties, to lighten the load and reclaim precious moments with my loved ones.
