Meet Lindsay Dyan

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lindsay Dyan. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lindsay below.

Lindsay, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?

Being the only one in the room has been both a challenge and a powerful source of growth. It can feel isolating at times, but I’ve learned to view it as an opportunity to stand out, own my voice, and bring something unique to the table. I focus on showing up, knowing that my perspective is valuable precisely because it’s different.

Over time, I’ve also leaned into being multifaceted as a strength. Whether I’m navigating the fashion world with Cosmic Outlaw, writing about music, or exploring new creative ventures, I’ve learned to trust my instincts and lead with authenticity. Success, for me, comes from staying true to who I am, regardless of the environment I’m in.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

My journey has always been about embracing all the facets of who I am, entrepreneur, creator, writer, dreamer. I’m the founder of Cosmic Outlaw, a lifestyle brand that celebrates rebels, creatives, and trailblazers. It started as a passion project and has grown into a platform that inspires people to own their unique style and voice. I love creating something that feels meaningful.

In addition to Cosmic Outlaw, I run a music blog called Top of My Lungs, where I share stories about my backstage experiences, band interviews, and the moments that make music such a universal language. Writing has been my way of connecting with people on a deeper level, and it’s opened doors for me to contribute to some pretty incredible publications.

What ties everything together is my love for creating. Whether it’s designing, writing, or brainstorming a new venture, I thrive when I’m building something that inspires others to be bold, embrace their identity, and take up space in the world.

As for what’s next, Cosmic Outlaw is gearing up for more collaborations, new product launches, and events that connect with our community on a bigger scale. It’s an exciting time, and I’m thrilled to share this journey with others.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Resilience has been my anchor. Starting a business, pursuing creative projects, and stepping into unfamiliar spaces all come with challenges, missteps, and moments of serious doubt. I’ve learned to embrace setbacks as stepping stones, trusting that every roadblock is part of the process. For anyone starting out, my advice is to focus on building your mindset as much as your skillset. Read, journal, meditate, and seek out people who inspire you to keep going, even when things feel tough.

Adaptability has been key to navigating change and growth. My path has never been linear, and that’s by design. From launching Cosmic Outlaw to curatingT op of My Lungs, I’ve had to learn new skills and pivot quickly when opportunities arise. For those early in their journey, I’d say: Stay curious. Be open to learning and experimenting. Don’t be afraid to try something new or to completely fail; the lessons you gain are absolutely priceless.

Lastly, creativity is the thread that ties everything together. Whether it’s designing apparel, bring deep in the music, or dreaming up new side quests, creativity fuels my passion and keeps me moving forward. For anyone looking to tap into their creative side, my advice is simple: create every day. It doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to be authentic. Surround yourself with inspiring people, art, and experiences, and let those influences shape your unique voice.

Ultimately, your journey is yours. Don’t compare yourself to others. Focus on what lights you up and let that passion guide your way.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?

One book that’s played a transformative role in my journey is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. It’s a story about pursuing your ‘Personal Legend,’ and it resonated deeply with me as someone who’s always followed a nontraditional path.

One of the most impactful lessons from the book is the idea that the universe conspires to help you when you’re truly pursuing your purpose.
