Meet Lindsey L. Miller

We were lucky to catch up with Lindsey L. Miller recently and have shared our conversation below.

Lindsey, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
Optimism can be hard to come by in the world we live in. I have found that I must make a choice to choose to find optimism every day. Some days I give into the self-doubt, fears, depression, and anxiety, but each day is a new opportunity to find hope in our world. The best way I have found to be optimistic is to find gratitude daily in small and large aspects of life. This helps wire my brain to see more of the positive around me instead of dwelling on the negative. When I create art, I lean towards creating more of what I want to see in the world. Sometimes, I am hoping to just bring a little whimsy or beauty into someone’s life. Other times, I try to see how I can use my art to shine light on important issues in the world that need more attention. Art is the window into creating an ideal world to strive for, and I believe if you can dream it then it can be real.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
As a freelance artist, it can be like a juggling act to keep all the areas of my life and career afloat. As a performer, I have an upcoming show with Digital Fashion Week on February 9th for NYFW where I will be dancing and controlling the movements of a hologram onstage, which I am very excited and honored to be a part of. I am also working on creating an act combining pointe and fire elements, so that is new territory for me to explore this year adding flow arts to my traditional ballet/modern dance training. As a choreographer, I am in the middle of developing some new projects for my company LLMoves this year, including an immersive dance show that I have been working on building the past few years. As a teacher, I just completed my 500hr yoga teacher training and am building my new company Sky Grounding Wellness that encompasses my work as a yoga, fitness, and movement educator.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Curiosity, tenacity, and introspection are the three qualities that I feel have been most impactful in my journey to where I am today in my life and career. I am always staying curious, continuing to learn new skills, and be open to inspiration from anything and anyone I might encounter. I feel that has been key in longevity in the pursuit of a creative field. Tenacity has also kept me following my dreams even when rationally it did not seem like the smart direction to keep going. Big dreams take a million small, daily steps in the direction you hope to end up. When opportunities do not come through that I have hoped for, I have always tried to create my own opportunities in the direction of my goals. And finally, and possibly most importantly, introspection has been incredibly impactful in my journey. To continue growing and evolving as a human being and an artist, I have spent so much time working on healing my baggage and challenging my limiting beliefs. Until you can be a clean conduit to channel your art, I feel you will always continue to run into unnecessary roadblocks and drama in your life. It is a daily choice to rewire your brain in a way that helps your journey instead of hurting it. Every single person has life experiences that shape us into who we are, but it is our choice to either allow life to unconsciously shape us and our future or if we consciously shape our own life and mindset in a way that we hope to be.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I am always looking for other artists to collaborate with! Collaborating is one of my favorite parts about being an artist. As a choreographer, I am always looking for composers, fashion designers, set designers, visual artists, etc. who are looking to get their work out there into interdisciplinary creations. I have choreographed for several fashion designers over the years to help elevate their runway shows, photographs, or videos with movement that showcases their clothes. I am always thrilled to create new works to existing or collaborative musical scores by emerging composers or recording artists. And this year, I am hoping to create some more immersive dance creations that will utilize art of different set designers and visual artists to create a unique world for the audience to experience.
