Meet Lindsey Saenz

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lindsey Saenz. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lindsey below.

Lindsey, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

The simple answer? God.

The more complex answer takes me back to the summer of 2024, chasing my kids around a splash pad. My thoughts were what you’d expect from any parent: Don’t let them slip. Don’t let them drown. But then, out of nowhere, the idea for my first book dropped into my head like an atomic bomb. And it wasn’t just bare bones, nope. I had the title, the characters’ names, and the basic plot line.

That didn’t come from me. That was all God.

I’ve always loved writing; English was my favorite subject in school. But writing a book? That was never a blip on my radar. Yet the moment we got home from vacation and my fingers hit the keyboard, I had an entire 85,000-word book done and ready to edit in a month. I knew then that this wasn’t just about storytelling. I prayed over every word, asking God to help it mean something. Let my struggles and my experiences bring comfort to someone else.

At the heart of my first book sits my own personal battles- ones I’ve split between the two main characters. One struggles with depression while the other carries the scars from years of mental abuse. Writing their story became healing for me. And when readers with similar struggles picked it up, they found it healing for them, too.

I didn’t know what to expect when I first started; I was just following a nudge. But now, seeing the impact, I wholeheartedly understand my purpose. Writing books with characters who navigate mental health struggles gives others a space to feel seen and heard and to know they aren’t alone. My hope now is that when someone picks up my books, they don’t just find a story; they find comfort. They find a quiet reassurance that says, You’re not alone.

And that? That is how I found my purpose.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am an author who writes contemporary romance. I’m currently working on book two of The Wilder Brothers series! If you’ve read my first book, which was a hockey romance, you’ll be happy to know that book two follows Tatum and Abby. They have been an absolute blast to write. Their witty banter, tension so thick you could cut it with a knife, and hate-to-love dynamic make for some explosive chemistry. I can’t want for you to dive into their story when it (hopefully!) releases in Summer 2025, fall at the latest.

If you’re a fellow book lover, I’ll be attending Sports Romance Con in Minneapolis from Feb 28 to March 2, 2025, or Feel the Heat Book Bash in Tampa on July 12, 2025; I’d love to meet you! Come say hi, let’s talk books, and maybe you’ll even get a little sneak peek at what’s coming next.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Consistency. This is the one thing I will tell everyone is the most important “skill” they can develop. In whatever you do, consistency is the one thing that will take you from point A to point B. I didn’t want to wake up every morning at 4:30 to write, but I did. And now my body wakes me up with no alarm. I get to get up and write before the chaos of the day starts. It’s where I do my best work. Even if you are consistent in the tiniest things, making your bed, drinking one more glass of water, or going for a walk, all those “little” things start to compound into bigger things.

Discipline. This is a big one for me because I am a “mood” person. If I’m not in the mood for something, I don’t do it. On the flip side, if I am in the mood for it, I’ll do it. It takes a conscious decision on my part, every single day, to do the things I need to do to get to where I want to be. Without discipline and pushing past my feelings of not wanting to or wanting to do something else, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Little steps every day are what helped me most in this area. I didn’t just decide to cut everything out and start at ground zero. I took my phone and put it somewhere else while I worked so I didn’t get distracted and scroll through social media when I should be working. Something doable for you; start small and work your way to the bigger things.

Don’t do life alone. This is something I wish I had known before I started my publishing journey. The amount of friendships I’ve made in the author world is worth its weight in gold. But the knowledge I’ve gained from those friends could fill an encyclopedia. If you want to get somewhere, surround yourself with people who have been there, who have done it before, and who want to help you along the way. I’ve had people read my entire book before it went out to its early release team and catch the mistakes my editor didn’t. I’ve had people give me advice on how to market, what to bring to author events, and what they’ve learned from previous launches of their own. I would not have had as successful of a book launch if I didn’t have a network of friends I could rely on. I think this is one of the most crucial parts of life. Having people you can trust and lean on in whatever circle you run in is imperative.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?

Self-confidence. I feel like when you step into your purpose, your confidence grows. You know you’re where you’re supposed to be. I’m still insecure and struggle with imposter syndrome, but I also know I’m where I am for a reason. I feel powerful in my journey, even if I’m not what you’d call a big fish or a “success.” I know my work is making a difference in people’s lives.

That is the best form of payment and the best confidence boost ever.
