Meet Lindsey Watson

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lindsey Watson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Lindsey, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
Having a creative mind is something that is so important to me. I love being able to think of an idea and bring it to life. But it’s no joke that creativity comes with roadblocks at times.

Being a lifestyle photographer, I don’t always have the most opportunities to be as creative as I’d like to be. Most of my work consists of documenting families with kids. My style is consistent and there is not much change. However, when I am feeling like my creativity is running dry, I like to spice things up and do model calls.

Last year, I became knee deep in my work and was left feeling no creative bone in my body. I remember feeling stuck and hopeless with my business because I wasn’t enjoying work. When busy season started to die down, I made a bucket list of all the types of creative shoots that I wanted to do. I starting offered model calls and had several people volunteer to be in-front of my camera! I even photographed a session of a couple long-boarding with their Golden Retriever puppy!

These kinds of sessions are what brought my creativity back! And anytime I start to feel like I’m in a creative rut, I just remind myself to think about what I would love to do and go photograph someone doing that thing!

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Hi, I’m Lindsey! I’m the owner of Lindsey Morgan Photos, LLC. I’m based right outside Charlotte, North Carolina and proudly serve both of the Carolinas! One thing that I absolutely love is documenting memories. Which is why I turned my love for photography into a full-time career in 2023! I photograph families, brands, couples, weddings, babies, and everything in-between!

A little history about how I got started in photography: I received my very first camera in 2014. I started taking photos for family and friends all throughout high school and college. I photographed my very first wedding in 2021, and I took my business full-time in March of 2023!

I have had the honor and pleasure of documenting over 125 families, couples, and brands since last year. Photography is my passion and I’m so glad to have found a career that I truly enjoy!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I think the most important skills I have learned in the past year of being a business owner is to not give up when business is slow, stand your ground on what’s important to you, and keep pursuing no matter what! There were many times last year that I wanted to throw in the towel and quit. Business is hard, and I didn’t understand it. I’m still no expert, but I have learned through trial and error how to persevere. I encourage anyone who has a dream, business, or idea to GO for it! Don’t give up. Keep pressing on.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
When I feel overwhelmed, I don’t always snap out of the feeling as quickly as I’d like to. However, I have learned that taking a deep breath, not over-booking myself, and taking rest days are key to not feeling overwhelmed and stressed out.
