Meet Linn Holmstedt

We were lucky to catch up with Linn Holmstedt recently and have shared our conversation below.

Linn, so happy to have you with us today. You are such a creative person, but have you ever head any sort of creativity block along the way? If so, can you talk to us about how you overcame or beat it?
One thing I tend to do whenever I find myself feeling uninspired, is to simply sit down in my apartment, put on a vinyl record and just listen. It sounds kind of cliché, but I feel like I often get my writers blocks from being overwhelmed with just the constant pace of everything and feeling all over disconnected to my craft. Putting on a record and really paying attention to the music makes me feel a little bit more grounded again, allowing for myself to breathe and kind of tap into inspiration!

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a singer and songwriter based in Los Angeles. I arrange, record and perform background vocals for a variety of artists as well as productions while I also have my original project – blues/rock band Swedish Highcoast Ensemble – alongside amazing guitarist Marcus Lundqvist, for which I sing lead and co-write all the material. You can catch me at different shows around as well as some exciting releases coming very soon!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three skills I’d say are very good to possess if you are striving to make a living – not just as a singer, but in the music industry as a whole – include a relentless work ethic, a strong backbone but also graciousness. It is not an easy industry to be a part of and in order to make it a living, you do have to work extremely hard and be so very focused – devotion is key. A strong backbone will surely be needed, as there will be plenty of let downs and situations that will challenge you in so many ways – you just gotta keep on going. Lastly, always treat people will respect and grace. Be a kind person, support your peers and do your part to create a more wholesome environment.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
My dear parents! They have been my influences and sources of inspiration through the years, kind of passing down their admiration for music down to me and showing me the magic it can hold. My mom was in a gospel choir and would bring me to their rehearsals, and my dad would always be so thrilled so share with me his favorite records, hence I got a lot of musical influences from them both. They also taught me a lot about hard work and always encouraged me to stay resilient through it all!
