Meet Lisa & Alexa

We were lucky to catch up with Lisa & Alexa recently and have shared our conversation below.

Lisa & Alexa, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
Our optimism for a better world comes from hope. Hope and belief in our fellow man, in the belief that people are innately good, and that we have just lost our way when it comes to priorities around climate change. It is so easy to look around and feel hopeless; flooding, fires, earthquakes, atmospheric rivers, it’s all very overwhelming. For us to continue doing what we do, fighting for a better world, we have to do it with optimism and hope, it gives us the strength to keeping moving forward and fighting for our cause!

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
We are the Co-founders of Good Juju Body & Home, a female founded, BIPOC, Canadian, Indie Beauty and Clean-Living brand. We make premium plastic-free body & home essentials that are naturally derived, and free from chemicals commonly found in their traditional liquid counterparts. Beautiful products that are good for you, and good for the planet, too. We believe that you should not have to give up quality when you give up the plastic bottle. Our motto is “Zero Waste with Zero Compromise” making zero-waste a diverse, beautiful, luxurious experience.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three most impactful skills for us are being adaptive to the uncertain times, being creative with solutions when we have small budgets, and being nimble and willing to change direction quickly. We launched our business in the pandemic and have really know nothing but uncertainty. Any business right now whether it is early stages or more mature has to learn to embrace this uncertainty and go with the ups and downs of where we are now. For us, the best way to develop these skills has been to consistently network with other business owners and learn from them.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
Without a doubt, the network of other women entrepreneurs and mentors that we have developed have been essential in helping us overcome challenges along the way. We share common issues, help each other talk through solutions and support one another with connections and introductions as needed. This has also been one of the most rewarding aspects of starting Good Juju.
