Hi Lisa, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

HI! I’m Lisa the Owner and Aesthetican at Sorelle Beauty Suites! Just a little bit about how I got started in this industry.
I was diagnosed with Melanoma at 21 years old after my mom discovered a dark mole on my back. I ended up going through laser treatments and the doctor was able to remove all borders before passing through my bloodstream. I knew I needed to start taking better care of my skin and my body, so I decided to attend Esthetic school. My sister Angela recommended it and I LOVED IT! I graduated in 2004 with the highest honors and received a 99% on my state boards. Shortly after I got a job working at a med spa and continued for many years. I started growing their Esthetic department by 90% in services and product sales while getting paid very little. I absolutely love what I do! It is so rewarding to improve someones all over skin appearance and help them feel confident and beautiful about themselves. I knew I was worth much more and needed to make a change!
So I decided to go into business for myself. I started renting my own small loft room and after about two years it started to get challenging since I was out growing my little space.
Now I had the opportunity to lease a bigger space with my sister Angela. Angela is a master stylist and she has been in the industry just as long as I.
Finally after 19 years of people telling us that we need to work together at the same place. I started Sorelle Beauty Suites! Growing up and being part of a big Italian family, we were super close and chose the name “Sorelle” for the business which means Sisters in Italian. I think the name fits perfectly.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Our Sorelle Beauty team has more than 19 years of experience in the beauty industry. We offer a wide variety of services from Master Stylists , Aestheticians, Nurse Injectors, Lash Experts and Laser Specialists. Our talented providers receive constant education throughout the year on new innovations and creative techniques. At Sorelle Beauty Suites you will find a comfortable environment so you can feel free to be yourself.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I believe the most important skill to succeeded in the salon and spa business, first would be teamwork. Being able to work well with different personalities and opinions. Second communication, having proper verbal communication will help with the work flow, involves effectively explaining thoughts and plans so everyone is on the same page. Determination, doing the job well and efficient. Working hard and meeting your personal goal within a reasonable time frame.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

When I feel overwhelmed or stressed I will go for a long walk on the trails in my subdivision. I feel the physical activity helps change my mood. It feels good to be outside, clears my head and relaxes me.
