Meet Lisa Brewer

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lisa Brewer. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lisa below.

Hi Lisa, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

The saying “it’s just a job” turned into “it’s my livelihood”. 28 years ago, I was a high school graduate that was living on my own and had no idea what the future held for me. I was given an opportunity to work as a receptionist in a very busy real estate office in Kansas City. Little did I know that my future was being mapped out right in front of me.

You see, when I was little my Saturday mornings were spent on the construction job sites with my blue-collar Dad who they called “Badger”. Every weekend we would get ready in our work clothes, stop to get doughnuts and chocolate milk then head off to the job site for the day. My Dad was a concrete foreman and was in charge of the crews that poured foundations. He worked overtime to provide for our family and now as an adult, I realize what that overtime entailed.

As you perfect your craft in life, there are bound to be obstacles to overcome but with that comes growth. In order to see the true potential of your growth, you have to be willing to fail, fall, stumble, and get right back up again!! Resilience in work ethic is what drives a person to succeed on a level that sometimes even seems impossible at best. If someone would have told my 18-year-old self that this job as a receptionist would turn into my career of being a SME and Leader in the very same industry, I would have doubted them to the fullest.

Work ethic is passion. Work ethic is time. Work ethic is brutal when no one is watching. Work ethic is 5am start time with no end time until the job is done. Work ethic is something that I pride myself on and I am very fortunate to have had a hard-working, blue-collar Dad show me. Watching your parent every day go through their routine of work, family, sleep repeat just to get by all while still having time to enjoy life is a blessing and lesson all in one. Dad is 73 and just retired last year.

At a very young age of 16, I was tasked with managing my family’s flower shop business. We had multiple stores, and I managed two of them with my Mom. This point of time in my life is where I was able to learn discipline very young and in order to have a future in the working world I learned customer service, money management, inventory and more. It was hard work and long at times but looking back it was my calling.

After decades of being in the real estate industry, I have maintained titles as Licensed Realtor, Business Operations Manager, Marketing Manager, Director of Operations, Chief Operating Officer and most recently General Manager, Broker. One industry, multiple avenues of knowledge, solid work ethic and discipline is what got me to where I am today. You can teach people a lot of things in business but one thing you cannot teach, or coach is work ethic….you either have it or you don’t. I am grateful every day that I was not brought up in a household of “I’ll do that for you” but rather “Let me know if you need help after you make an attempt to try”. There’s a difference.

At the end of the day, work ethic is a huge part of my career and success. If my previous employers could describe my type of leadership or mentoring, I am confident they would reflect on my work ethic day in and day out. I am passionate about real estate and doing what I do as a Broker and General Manager in Kansas City. I continue to strive to be the best I can be at what I do and it’s all because I have the work ethic to do so. I love helping others grow, it’s my passion in life.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

With my 28 years of experience in Kansas City real estate, I am driven by results and success! I started as a receptionist in the industry when I was fresh out of high school. It was just a job to put me through college, but little did I know my career path was being laid out for me.

My focus in real estate is helping others grow their business to the level they wish. I am passionate about mentoring and coaching others in the industry, specifically in my brokerage Realty Executives Kansas City. I have held many positions in real estate that helped me gain my knowledge through experiences. Being a licensed Realtor and Broker is an opportunity to network with surrounding colleagues in Kansas City to ensure we are always in the know with other industry brokers. Competition is always a driving force in our industry, so anything I can do to help my team grow their business is what I am here for.

As the GM and Broker of Realty Executives Kansas City, I am focused on getting our brokerage name back out there to the public as we celebrate our 60th year as a brokerage in real estate nationwide! By utilizing one on one time (Coaching Sessions) with my team of Executives, I can ensure their needs are met from a brokerage standpoint as well as guide and assist them through difficulties in their business. Show me the problem so I can help find a solution.

I am excited to see what the future holds for Realty Executives Kansas City in 2025 and beyond! We are here, we are experienced, we are passionate. Real Estate is my wheelhouse for sure.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back the three qualities/skills would be my outgoing personality, ability to learn/adapt quickly, drive & determination to succeed in whatever I do in life.

Advice I would give is to never give up. Speedbumps are there to guide you through difficult events, personal or professional. Things will pass, grow from what you learn and NEVER pass judgement on someone that is less knowledgeable than you. Educate and reciprocate.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

Made me work for spending money when I was a teenager. My first job was in our family business of flower shops, so I earned my own money at a very young age.
