Meet Lisa Dickerson

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lisa Dickerson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Lisa, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

“I feel like my true calling found me when I was six months pregnant with my now six-year-old son. While scrolling through Instagram in early 2018, I came across a stunning custom cake and told his dad that I would create Anwar’s first birthday cake. By June 2019, I had made that cake, themed around Baby Shark. Although it wasn’t my best work, it marked the beginning of my journey. After his birthday, I continued to bake anything I could, initially using box mixes. In December 2019, I received my first custom cake order, and that’s when I decided to pursue my passion for custom cake artistry wholeheartedly. Since then, I’ve crafted over 500 custom cakes, all from scratch, and I’m now selling slices of my creations. It’s been a long and rewarding journey, and I’m excited to continue learning and growing along the way.”

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Hello, I’m Lisa Dickerson, the owner of LisSweets, where I specialize in creating custom cakes. With five years of baking experience, I’m passionate about making each occasion—whether it’s a birthday, wedding, or anniversary—a truly special one. What excites me most is bringing my customers’ ideas to life and providing them with delicious, homemade cakes made from scratch. It’s an honor to be part of their memorable moments!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

“The most transformative aspect of my journey was dedicating time to learn everything I could about baking, from mastering various tools to pushing through challenges without giving up. My advice to others is simple: keep practicing, stay committed to learning, and never lose hope, even when the going gets tough.”

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
