We were lucky to catch up with Lisa Harrington recently and have shared our conversation below.
Lisa, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My dad is an inspiration to me. His work ethic is my model for this. He’s a retired Army officer and his consistency, dedication and sense of duty are what taught me to be who I am today. He always gives 100%, but not until he’s sure of his mission. He’ll take the time needed to fully analyze a situation, and once he decides what to do there’s no stopping him. His devotion to our family is so pure; no matter what was going on we always know he loves us unconditionally.
One other consideration about work ethic is that I truly love what I do. I’m not in this work by accident. It’s a calling.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My practice is all about helping people find their joy, especially at work. My Vision Statement is Joy in the Workplace. Research shows that a great boss can make all the difference. So, my Mission Statement is Build Better Bosses. Everything I do centered around teaching bosses at all levels how to be better at leading their people. I am an Executive Coach, helping bring the best of our humanity while growing a successful business.
My keynotes are usually based on leadership or strategy & planning. Success doesn’t happen by accident. Creating a great plan will help the execution of your dream so much easier! I offer The Abiding Strategy Workshop, a live event with your team. Or, you can create a wonderful team building series using The Abiding Strategy Academy, an online workshop in eight parts perfect for a lunch & learn format. Using the Companion Workbook, you and your team can create your strategy together!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Drive, Consistency and Persistence were all very important in my journey. As an Army brat, change was inevitable; I didn’t even realize that it was supposed to be scary. Accepting change & being persistent with my own goals was critical.
If you know what you love you can find a way to make a living doing it. Be vulnerable and open to your own needs, and figure out how to fully articulate your dreams. Write it down! Do the research.
Ask for help! You don’t have to go it alone; there are others who will want to help you.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
My strategy method, The Abiding Strategy, is now available for others to learn and teach. It’s a process based on my second book: “Abiding Strategies: Build Your Best Business Foundation.” It’s unique because it has a specific element for accountability and follow up. I plan to have everything ready to license the method in the 2024. Some strategic planners are very expensive, and require several days.
The Abiding Strategy Workshop is a one day event and I’d love for other consultants and trainers to learn it and help me get it to more small businesses. Small businesses account for over 70% of employment in this country, and we need to acknowledge their importance to our economy. I want to help these owners be successful and thriving, but I can’t do it alone.
If other experienced trainers will come learn my process, we can help more people!
