We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lisa Lindsey a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Lisa, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I have heard it said that, “Show me your friends and I will tell you who you are”. While there is an abundance of truth in that statement, I would add a Baldwin quote, “Children have never been very good at listening to their elders, but they have never failed to imitate them”. My perseverance is rooted in the support and examples provided by my village in my early years blended with the love, support and diverse life experiences of my lifelong circle of close friends.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
For me, I would have to first recognize that everyone have dreams or thoughts and intentions on what they believe to be their purpose; by creating Ginger Yum, I’m blessed that my dream is now a reality. In my previous career, I fostered an environment where everyone bought into Corporate objectives in order to meet financial targets. Ginger Yum was created after I started blending beneficial essential and carrier oils together and wearing it. I was amazed at the number of people stopping me and asking me what I was wearing and where can they buy it. I knew that there was a business opportunity there, but for me, I wasn’t sold on just creating body products. I had to have a more satisfying purpose. During that time I reflected back to why I stopped using harsh perfumes and other body products, at the time, yet undiagnosed, I knew something was just not right with my body. My husband often calls me the great processor, as I think and analyze, true, sometime overthink. However, in this situation, I learned more about the chemicals that I was putting on my skin and how I was unintentionally doing more harm than good. The clarity of understanding that what we put on our skin will eventually enter the body was the missing component for me. At Ginger Yum, our core values are rooted in creating natural body products accentuated with inspiring aromas as an alternative to harmful body products. Ginger Yum has built trust with our customers knowing that we search worldwide to support producers of raw materials that align with our core values.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, I firmly believe that learned behaviors that served me well and will sustain exceptional customer experiences are:
Be an active listener
Be an effective communicator
Be your customers most greatest advocate
When layered over fundamental principles of integrity, are the keys to success.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
The body care industry has been and continues to be dominated by a small group of decision makers with primary loyalty to exclusive legacy brands. Ginger Yum products are created with defined, subtle elegance blended with understated aromas. We at Ginger Yum are determined to shatter the notion that products of exceptional quality should be limited to a small group of people. In 2023, Ginger Yum will endeavor to allow the voices of our customers to be heard on more social media platforms.
