We recently connected with Lisa Marie Carroll and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Lisa Marie, so great to have you on the platform. There’s so much we want to ask you, but let’s start with the topic of self-care. Do you do anything for self-care and if so, do you think it’s had a meaningful impact on your effectiveness?
Self care is so important! Small business owners like myself can often overlook the importance of self care and put it on a back burner because of all the time we put into building a successful business. I have found that the more I practice self care, the more fulfilled, happy and successful I become. My self care routine starts with getting up very early to start my day in silence (alone). I like to spend 1-2 hours every morning on my self care routine. This routine always includes journaling, writing down things I am grateful for, reading the Bible, reading other inspirational books, prayer, meditation, affirmations, visualization and exercise. I find I am much more centered and focused on my work once I finish this morning routine. I also think laughter and fun are important parts of self care, so I make sure to take time to relax with friends and family daily. I schedule fun “girls days” with my best friends at least monthly which rejuvenate me due to all the fun and laughter. In the past when I did not practice self care as effectively or consistently I often found myself feeling tired and burnt out. Now, it is a non-negotiable for me.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a local realtor in Tampa, Florida, also licensed in Georgia. I have been selling real estate since graduating from USF in 1993. Over the past 8 years I have built an amazing team we call “Team TLC.” We are a group of realtors and staff that serve our community at a high level of professionalism. Real estate is our passion and we love helping people with their biggest investments – buying and selling their primary residences! We also work with a lot of investors and help them find good rental properties to diversify their portfolios. My husband and son are licensed realtors and are part of our small business and our youngest son, who is still in high school also works for our business. I never imagined our kids would want to work alongside us in the real estate business, but I am grateful every day to do something I love with people I love! Over the many years I have served as a realtor here in Tampa, I have helped 1000’s of people. Our business has been built on trust and professionalism and we enjoy great relationships with our clients.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The skills I have learned over the years that have impacted my success the most are probably discipline to complete the small tasks that do not yield immediate results, education and continued growth in my field, and surrounding yourself with likeminded people you admire. Taking the time to learn is important and there are so many options now with the internet that the sky is the limit. I think you have to be careful not to go after the “shiny objects” and keep focused on the tasks that you know yield results and do them daily, even though the results may take time. It is just like working out. You do not see immediate results from your efforts, but over time you will see the results. It is the same with building your business. Find groups you can join where you will be around other professionals you admire and look up to. This is invaluable! The people you associate with impact your journey.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I am looking to collaborate with other professionals in the real estate industry. Referring business to others is a big part of what we do and of course we love to receive referrals as well!
