Meet Lisa Marvin

We were lucky to catch up with Lisa Marvin recently and have shared our conversation below.

Lisa , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I owned a spiritual wellness centre for over 10 years. In 2020, in February, for my birthday, I saw some paintings online that I wanted to re-create, and I took the Sheleeart class. I didn’t realize how much that would change my life. A month later Covid began, everything shut down, and I moved to my cottage. I had nothing to do to fill my time, except spent hours upon hours, trying to master the Bloom technique. I’m not sure I ever dedicated so much time to one thing. And it does take thousands of hours to master something, and luckily I had the time. It has change my life beyond words. I have met best friends from all around the world, will connecting with so many amazing people.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I didn’t realize how much my old life, before, becoming a full-time fluid artist, mirrors, my new life. In my old life, I was a spiritual teacher, inspirational speaker, and therapist. Funnily enough, I realize, this is what I do in my new life as well, I’m just using prettier colors!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I think for me, one of the most important qualities that has contributed to my success, is my ability to trust my gut, and to journey forward with whatever felt right, even if it sounded crazy. When I started my YouTube, I just did it for my friends to see what I was up to during Covid. I never imagined anyone would watch.
Another important quality to have, is the ability to put yourself out there, and brave the possibility of failure or criticism. The one thing I regret in the beginning, is that I was very selective about what videos I would tape and put out there, because I thought people would be bored unless I did anything spectacular.
The last thing that I am still working on, and I’m sure others can benefit from as well, is not being so hard on myself and my work. I am way too picky, and it can be a great disadvantage!

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
I think one of the biggest challenges that artists have, is when you are well known for one style, breaking out of that style can be difficult with the followers expecting a certain thing from you. I’ve made a commitment to myself this year, to continue to express myself in different artistic ways, without paying too much attention to the outcome. It’s challenging! But I have to keep reminding myself that this art started out as being inspirational to me, and I have to continue to ride the inspirational wave wherever it takes me, with no expectations.
