We were lucky to catch up with Lisa Moton recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Lisa , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My work ethic came from my dad, My dad & my stepmom both worked full-time jobs and ran two businesses which I also learned to run. So needless to say, I was [born] with it!
I love helping people succeed. Having a strong work ethic goes a long way especially running a business.
I always tell my clients “There isn’t anything you can’t do.”
They go hard, I go HARDER to reach those goals.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My field of expertise is Public Relations.
I handle all media related items for my clients. Scaling a brand takes work, but if you have a publicist with the right connections the opportunities are endless.
My focal points are: Brand Management, Pitches & Media Placements, Radio Interviews, Publications & Event Coverage.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back I would say my [hands on] experience was the best teacher. Sure having a degree adds to your CV, but the real knowledge & experience comes from actually [doing] or shadowing someone in the line of business. You learn more and faster.
The advice I would give to someone starting up is to do research first. Research all aspects of your business. Find a mentor. Starting a business isn’t easy & doing it alone is even harder. Trust your vision, journey & process but get HELP if needed.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was “Believe In Me.”
They taught me business at age 14 & I ran with it. I always wanted to be the CEO.
My dad always told my sister & I – We could do anything. So after his passing in 2014, we’ve honored him by succeeding in our businesses.
I truly love what I do & I knew in 2006 this was my purpose.
