Meet Lisa Owens

We were lucky to catch up with Lisa Owens recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Lisa, so great to have you on the platform. There’s so much we want to ask you, but let’s start with the topic of self-care. Do you do anything for self-care and if so, do you think it’s had a meaningful impact on your effectiveness?

For me, self-care is a vital practice that involves both physical and sensory rejuvenation. My daily workout is non-negotiable; it’s a dedicated hour where I can unplug from the demands of running a business and focus solely on myself. This mental reset is crucial for maintaining the clarity and energy needed to be effective.

I also deeply value the restorative power of a great spa day. It’s more than just the treatments; it’s the entire atmosphere. The calming scents from aromatherapy and candles have an incredible ability to soothe the mind and wash away stress. That experience of finding tranquility and resetting through scent is profound.

This belief in the transformative power of fragrance is what inspired me to collaborate with Ivory Luxe Home Fragrance. I wanted to capture that feeling of a luxurious spa escape and make it accessible for people to enjoy in their own homes. My Mosaic line, is designed to help create a personal sanctuary—a space to unwind and recharge from life’s demands.

By prioritizing these self-care rituals, I find I’m more focused, creative, and resilient. It allows me to approach my business with a clear and inspired mind, ensuring I can effectively manage challenges and continue creating products that help others find their own moment of peace.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

At Mosaic Engagements, I have the privilege of curating bespoke, unforgettable experiences for a discerning clientele, which includes celebrities. From fundraisers and award ceremonies to C-suite international retreats, we manage a wide array of events. The most exciting part of my work is the storytelling—transforming a client’s unique vision into a tangible event where every detail reflects their personality. My goal is to create an atmosphere that feels both grand and intimately personal.

A pivotal moment for my brand came from a beautiful collaboration with Ivory Luxe Home Fragrance, another woman-owned business. Together, we co-created a signature scent exclusively for my company called “The Mosaic Collection.” This custom fragrance has become a hallmark of our events, enveloping guests in a cohesive and immersive sensory experience from the moment they arrive. It’s a subtle yet powerful touch that creates a lasting memory.

The response from guests was so incredible that they constantly asked how they could bring that feeling home. As a result of our partnership, “The Mosaic Collection” was made available to the public through Ivory Luxe Home Fragrance, and it has proudly become one of their best sellers. It’s a wonderful synergy that extends beyond the event itself; we’re not just planning life’s biggest moments, but through our collaboration, we’re also creating sensory experiences that people can cherish and relive long after the celebration ends.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, three areas have been truly pivotal in my journey with Mosaic Engagements.

First is an unwavering attention to detail. In luxury event planning, excellence is found in the smallest nuances—the things that guests might not consciously notice but collectively feel. It’s the seamless flow of an evening, the perfect lighting, the personalized touch that shows a client they were truly heard. This detailed approach is the foundation of creating a bespoke experience.

My advice for developing this: Start by becoming a student of experiences. Whether you’re at a restaurant, a hotel, or a concert, analyze what makes it special or where it falls short. Create exhaustive checklists and run-of-show documents for your own projects, and then challenge yourself to add another layer of detail. Think through every step of the guest journey and anticipate needs before they arise.

Second is the art of genuine relationship building. My business is built on trust—with clients who entrust me with their most important moments, and with partners and vendors who are essential to bringing a vision to life. The collaboration with Ivory Luxe Home Fragrance is a perfect example; it was born from a relationship of mutual respect and a shared creative vision, not just a transaction.

My advice for developing this: Focus on being a great listener. Understand people’s motivations and needs beyond the immediate task. Nurture your network consistently, not just when you need something. Be generous with your connections and support other entrepreneurs. Your reputation for being a reliable and respectful partner will become your greatest asset.

Finally, cultivating a strong creative vision focused on sensory branding. An event is a temporary world you create for people to step into. I realized early on that the most memorable experiences engage all the senses. That’s why we co-created “The Mosaic Collection” scent. It’s not just a candle; it’s an olfactory signature that immediately immerses guests in the unique atmosphere of our brand and makes the memory of the event tangible.

My advice for developing this: Seek inspiration outside of your industry. Visit art installations, travel, study architecture, and explore different cuisines. Ask yourself how you can translate an emotion or a brand’s essence into a sensory experience. What does your brand sound like? Feel like? Smell like? Don’t be afraid to collaborate with experts in other creative fields to bring these sensory layers to life.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?

The book “Women Amplified” by Lisa Bennett has been incredibly impactful for me. As a guide for women navigating the professional world, its lessons have been a constant source of strength and strategy throughout my entrepreneurial journey.

Two pieces of wisdom were particularly transformative:

First, the concept of “Amplification.” The book highlights the strategy of intentionally repeating and crediting ideas shared by other women to ensure their contributions are heard and valued. This resonated deeply with me because it reframes success as a collective effort rather than a competitive one. It affirmed my belief in collaboration, which was the very foundation of my partnership with Ivory Luxe Home Fragrance. We didn’t just work together; we actively amplified each other’s strengths and brands, leading to a success that was greater than what either of us could have achieved alone.

Second, the importance of owning your voice and value. Bennett speaks on the necessity of moving past self-deprecation and confidently articulating your achievements and vision. This was a crucial reminder for me, especially when stepping into high-stakes environments like planning C-suite retreats or celebrity events. This mindset shift is essential. It’s not arrogance; it’s about having an unshakable belief in the value you bring to the table. That confidence is what allows clients to place their trust in you for their most significant moments.

The book is a masterclass in strategic communication and alliance-building, providing a tangible framework for how women can support one another and collectively rise.
