Meet Lisa Peranzo

We recently connected with Lisa Peranzo and have shared our conversation below.

Lisa, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
I have the best job in the world and I don’t think I’m being biased when I make that statement. Seriously, how many people get to wear comfy pants to work, be around people they adore, and have every single day be completely different? Not to mention getting to empower people to embrace their strength, and step into their confidence. All while getting paid? Not many.

It’s the coolest spot to be in and I can’t help BUT feeling happy about it. Sure, I see people sometimes at their worst. When they’re fighting through challenges, injuries, or even frustrations in their personal lives. But I also get to be there on the other side when they finish their workout feeling accomplished and happy. Joyous not only for the work they put (and arguably that it’s done) but also grateful for their body’s ability to move.

I am optimistic because I am forever grateful to be a part of someone’s wellness journey, grateful that they would spend their time with me, and grateful that I get to wake up every day doing something I love.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I started A Healthful Life a few years back because I wanted to give back to my community by helping them learn how to incorporate working out and eating well as a part of their daily routine.

I do not offer cookie cutter solutions, instead I work closely with my clients to tailor a healthy lifestyle that fits what they need and want for their lives. While I program workouts and give recipes to my clients, I also support and encourage them through the process of making transformative life changes one step at a time. They know that I am there to motivate them and also hold them accountable so working out and eating well becomes their lifestyle.

To support my community even more, I started Healthy and Fit, a monthly membership program where you get workouts, recipes, meal hacks, and journal prompts sent to you for the week ahead. It takes the stress out of planning what you’re going to do for your workouts while giving you the assurance of having a trainer there for you if you need me.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
When I went into training full time, I had no idea what I was doing. I had some certifications and knew how to train, but I didn’t know how to run a business in any respect. Over the years, I’ve learned a lot and a lot has changed, mostly for the better.

What I know now, and what I would encourage people who are starting their journey to focus on is: having a strong support system, being passionate about what you’re doing, and be hungry to learn more about your craft.

Being an entrepreneur can be hard and frustrating, as well as beyond rewarding. You have to have people in your corner who will build you up and support you, even if they don’t understand what you do.

However, having that support system won’t matter if you don’t love what you do. If you are not excited to put in the work every day, if you’re dreading it, you need to find something else to spend your time on. Not only will that negative energy come across to clients, but life is too short to spend your time on something you aren’t passionate doing.

That passion should lead you to being hungry to learn more. Acquire knowledge constantly. Read the books, go to the trainings, get more certifications, whatever is applicable for your field, do it. Industries change constantly, being up to date on current trends will not only help further your passion, but will help the people you serve as well.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
The obstacle that I currently face is an obstacle I’ve always faced in the wellness and fitness industry. This industry is saturated with people, and getting yourself to stand out amongst the crowd can be a huge challenge.

Not just in the respect of being seen so you can have residual clientele, but also in the respect of not comparing yourself to the person next to you who makes working out so easy.

I don’t think this challenge will ever go away and earlier in my career, it was one that was so present in my mind, it was discouraging. It lead to a lot of thoughts of me not being good enough for this field, even though I knew I put in the work to be a qualified contender.

I had to get to the point where I let go of those outside pressures and focused on WHY I do this work: because if I can help just one person feel stronger and more confident, and that strength and confidence trickles into every aspect of their lives, then I have served my community well.

I know now that I need to embrace the faith that the clients who need me will find me, and we will be able to work together to create their ideal healthy lifestyle.
