Meet Lisa Rodriguez

We recently connected with Lisa Rodriguez and have shared our conversation below.

Lisa, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
I would venture to say that I keep my creativity alive by remembering that almost anything can be made into a cookie which then becomes art. I often look at things and think to myself, I should make this into a cookie!

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I started my cookie business back in 2015 and it has been one of the most rewarding accomplishments of my life. Even though this was never meant to become a business it has really taught me a lot about myself and my artistic skills. It has allowed me the opportunity to challenge myself and my skillset. It has also allowed me the opportunity to bring joy to others.

I specialize in making custom decorated sugar cookies. I can also customize edible images that can be placed on cookies for that personal touch. My cookies are almond flavored, and are soft in texture which gives it an almost cake-like consistency. I am probably one of the very few, if not the only cookie decorator that charges a flat rate of $35.00 ( dozen).

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
When I look back on this experience, I would have to say that my ability to make almost any vision come to life no matter how much or little detail is provided to me. As an artist, I am fortunate to have such a creative mentality which allows me to create something magical. Having the ability to turn my art into something edible and memorable is priceless. Having watched other cookie decorators has been very instrumental in my cookie decorating journey because it has taught me so many things that have been useful to me. The very idea that I had all of these wonderful artists who were willing to share their talents and skills with others was so appreciated. My advice to someone starting their own baking business is this, let your creativity soar, and ALWAYS remember why you are doing what you’re doing. When you love what you’re doing, it no longer becomes work.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

I would have to say that my family, friends, and customers are the very thing that inspires me to continue on this journey. They have been supportive since day one and continue to offer limitless support and encouragement. Without my customers this business of mine would simply not exist. Their happiness and satisfaction with my product is absolutely worth it all.
